That depends if you mean the show admitted she was wrong or the events and common sense suggest she's wrong.

Latter would need to count, former, absolutely.

That's why Fluttershy only became my favorite in later seasons (and season 1), where she was goofy enough, and wrong enough, and unsympathetic enough to actually be a person, rather than a insufferable moeball.

I'm not a huge fan of pure perfect messiah Fluttershy, for similar reasons to not enjoying that trope applied to Twilight.

Yours is like First Installment Wins only applied to a very short window of time rather than a single installment. Project Horizons itself is quite literally the SECOND big installment of that kind of fic. So what you're getting at is that only fanfics and fan ideas conceived of within a certain timeframe that was very early on in the series' run got to be accepted as everyday concepts in the general lexicon of the fandom.

You could call it the Derpy Hooves effect. Everyone knows who she is and she has a reasonably well defined character, despite the fact that for the majority of her existence she's almost entirely been a fanwork. You would never get that past the first year of a fandom.

My take on it is that Fluttershy at least normally gets to be a little goofy and awkward when she's being RIGHT, and her being assertive can itself be funny. There also often that tiny hint of manipulation to give it some bite.

Messiah Twilight has a tendency to outright remove her personality, and reduce her to 80% directionless, angsty, whiny generic protagonist to bounce between plot points, and 20% generic friendship speech deliverer and friendship laser focus.

I honestly wish they'd dive into Fluttershy's flaws more often. Not her "not assertive" flaw that they've addressed like 20 times, but all the others. Like, she's actually pretty dumb when it comes to caring for animals, she seems to value the welfare of animals above that of her friends, when she grows a spine she tends to become a real jerk, and a lot of her "kindness" is just her being too passive to stand up for herself or do what she wants. I think she'd be a way more interesting character :D

Well the last was actually addressed in a (admittedly dull) episode that to it's credit actually stuck. Fluttershy has never really hesitated to call ponies on their bullshit ever since learning that dealing with the Breezies.

I like Fluttershy's arrogance more than anything. The Applejack rivaling stubbornness in her point of view shown in the Kirin episode, or that near suicidal determination in "Health of Information". Hell even the slight bitchiness when defied is wonderful to see, as it turns her from caricature to actual person (most recently featured in "She Talks to Angel", where she comes across as surprisingly unreasonable at times).

And yes, she's surprisingly uneducated about animals sometimes, which is reasonably consistent but has never been specifically highlighted as such. I doubt she's had any actual formal training.

I do like Fluttershy in part because she is cool, competent and a nice person, but her flaws help frame that. Without that, she's admittedly flat.

@Philweasel

I don't like it when the writer's make her dumb about animals, especially when it's just reflecting their own lack of reasearch. (And I do assume she's a trained professional.)

@Badumsquish
Most of those flaws of hers have had episodes. Just not recently.

She's always came across as a well meaning amateur to me. And I'm not sure when she would have found time to actually go to university.

By this point though, she's got enough practical experience that she can easily be considered an expert in most fields. Though I note she still takes her animals to see an actual Vet.

I’m not sure when she would have found time to actually go to university.

Between finishing school in Cloudsdale and settling in Ponyville, of course. There's no real evidence for or against it in the show, but I like the idea. And it ties into my conviction that she's a public employee — not a post Ponyville is likely to offer an unqualified out-of-town pegasus who can't have sold herself very agressivly.

Of course, she'd have had to spend a lot longer there to get an actual vet's degree. So in the medical sense, you could call her an experienced novice.
