Does the MLP fandom ship everyone with everyone, or is that every fandom?

I think every fandom has that problem. But I like to believe that when people are shipping everyone together with everyone (even for characters that haven’t met before) they’re probably joking around or they’re just kids.

I hear a lot about how Spike had a lot of potential as a character that was wasted. What potential of his was wasted, specifically?

Do you get the feeling Spike isn’t a popular character?

I’ve seen people complaining about him being abused. Or left out. Or treated as a pet*, or a slave. Or acting smart one minute and like an idiot the next.Or Rarity leading him on and using him. Or how we never found out about his real family. Some claims with more merit than others.
 
*A lot of people don’t like him being a dog in Equestria Girls. But they’re just dumb.

Yeah I have feelings for him too in FIM. Not the best of how he positioned.  
Although I really love the G1 Spike than G4, he’s better, non-abused (but not abused as much), etc.
 
This is the spike that I really interested than the G4 spike.
 
In all honesty I felt G4 spike’s pain after all the 10 years that he went through.

Gen 1 Spike was like the little brother that tagged along the adventures, gen 3 Spike was the old timey intelligent guy. And finally Gen 4 Spike is the little brother that every one takes for granted.

Spike reminds me of Goob from Meet the Robinsons.

Someone on /mlp/ suggested that the writers intentionally didn’t answer questions about where Spike’s parents are, what happened to the Apple parents, or why Terramar’s parents live apart so parents can talk to their kids watching the show about adoption, death and divorce.
