We have received requests from many users to give fan names to Fluttershy's parents, Trixie's mom, and the Sphinx. While we have a "[lively thread":](/pony/naming-background-ponies-thread) for the naming of incidental background characters, it doesn't get a lot of participation from Derpibooru users as a whole. In order to hear the input of as many fans as possible, we've established this thread to take name suggestions for all four of these characters.


 
After -~~one week-~~ **three full days** of submissions, we'll hold polls to narrow down the list of suggestions to a "final four". Depending on the amount of submissions, there may be a second round of voting - it all depends on how much participation there is.


 
When the final candidates are determined, we'll hold one last poll for each character to determine the top two names. Included in each final poll will be an option to **remain unnamed**. The #1 vote-earner will be the primary tag, and the runner-up and current tag will both become aliases of the winning name. That means you won't have to change any filters or watch lists for these characters - the old tags will still work the same. If **remain unnamed** wins, that character's current tag will remain the primary tag, and the runner-up will be made an alias of it.

* Submit as many suggestions as you like (make sure to mention who it's for), but keep them safe and don't use company trademarks for them. Inappropriate suggestions will be ignored at the staff's discretion.
 
* Check the "[tag search":](/tags) to make sure your suggestion isn't already in use by another MLP character.
 
* Be creative! Pony names seldom refer directly to their cutie mark, so flex those creative muscles.
