It isn’t written law, but the vast majority of bronies seems to act like it is. Most of today’s bronies weren’t around during the Lyra-forcefully-renamed-to-Heartstrings kerfuffle, have never learned many of the old fan names and see what’s written in the Wiki as The One Truth™, going as far as trying to correct those who still use the old fan names. (“Carrot Top…” “Her name is Golden Harvest. The Wiki says so.”)
 
The Wiki’s word is not law or holy gospel. The Wiki’s procedure does not have to be Derpibooru’s procedure.
 
It is not defined as holy gospel. But it is treated as holy gospel by its readers quite frequently.

I think it was due to how the wiki has it, since they have Alula listed there as Princess Erroria due to the name change there.
 
That was because, I think it was /mlp/, have raided the Reddit vote on her name and orchestrated masses of votes for Princess Erroria. Manipulated or not, this poll remains valid until this day.
 
Good thing enough bronies regard this name as ridiculous and still call her (at least the plain pegasus version) Alula.

That’s why I think implication tags for both names is a good compromise.
 
Exactly. This way, we keep the names we’re used to, whoever is looking for a pony with a name from the Wiki will find that pony, and both sides will find the name they know in the tags. It’s better than ignoring the Wiki outright and better than forcefully clearing Derpibooru of all names that contradict the Wiki.
 
 
Back to the thread’s purpose: We’ve still got three kirin to name, believe it or not.

I know we’re in the midst of voting on names for other background ponies and humans, but when there’s a chance, do you think the background kirin could be brought back for renaming? This probably seems odd, but I have a good reason for this.
 
There’s actually more to at least Autumn Blaze’s name that no one’s noticed (Fern Flare is just grass + fire and Rain Shine is nature themed while also invoking that optimistic ‘rain, shine, sleet or snow’ phrase).
 
By complete accident, while looking through maple leaf clipart to make a cutie mark for an oc, I discovered that Autumn Blaze is the name of a maple tree cultivar.
 
That’s a really clever little genius bonus for botanists! And I don’t know, I feel like having at least a few background kirin with names like that would be cool.
 
So, yes? No? Maybe?
