I’m sorry, but I heavily disagree, considering how the wiki just loves to snuff out fan names, it would be best to keep things how they are, hell, even aliasing the names the wiki selected into the ones here would be a better idea.

Notoriously Divine Tagger - Consistently uploads images above and beyond the minimum tag requirements. And/or additionally, bringing over the original description from the source if the image has one. Does NOT apply to the uploader adding several to a dozen tags after originally uploading with minimum to bare tagging.

Look at all those posts trying to “correct” our names because the Wiki has different names.

What I see is one post and then one guy adding one wiki name to three images.

On a related note: @LuckClover707, it’s not generally a good idea to add names for unnamed characters without going through the approval process first.

That honestly sounds like the best option to me. If this keeps being an issue – or if it starts being more than a blip in the site’s day-to-day drama, which is what it is right now – then aliasing the wiki’s names into ours would solve the issue rather handily.

If we find out that a pony is referred to by a different name in an official G4 medium, then we should alias the fan-made name, yes. But not if the Wiki team decides for a name that is different than ours.
Now that I just learned about the Wiki’s ignorance in that regards, I don’t want that we follow them.

Don't test my slam jam
After being informed of some of the things being said about the MLP Wiki in this thread (particularly by one Pulse Wave), I felt the need to clarify a few points:

@Pulse Wave
The Wiki only accepts names that Reddit decides upon. And Reddit knows exactly jack about our names because nobody ever tells Reddit our names!

This is false. The Wiki frequently makes use of pony names that are voted on here (or at least in accordance with common character tags). Not in every single case, but often. Reddit may be the Wiki’s “ultimate decider”, but names nominated on Reddit commonly come right from here.

what the Wiki says is fandom-wide law™, full stop.

Uhhhh… since when?

@Pulse Wave
AFAIR, quite a number of bronies were perma-banned from editing the Wiki because they weren’t willing to let go of the name “Lyra”. […] Seriously, use any fan name that’s been “Jossed” by Hasbro (even though it’s being used pretty much everywhere else in the fandom) on the Wiki, and you might get perma-banned on the spot upon first strike.

False. This has never happened. Not once.

The MLP:FiM Wiki will never ever, ever, ever, EVER accept anything from Derpibooru because being a fan site makes Derpibooru an “unreliable source” that must NOT be linked to or referenced under any circumstances

Inaccurate. The Wiki does not recognize Derpibooru as an INFORMATION source. However, images uploaded to the site (and on occasion, placeholder names, like I said above) are used regularly.

You can’t rename a pony with an existing placeholder name. Only DHX, Hasbro and licensees can do that.

False. Multiple ponies with placeholder names have been renamed in the past. E.g., Alula -> Princess Erroria, Berry Pinch -> Ruby Pinch, etc.

The Wiki’s word is not law or holy gospel. The Wiki’s procedure does not have to be Derpibooru’s procedure.

The Wiki is not the be-all, end-all authority on pony names. Dozens of characters with names on this site have gone unnamed on the Wiki for some time, and multiple characters’ names on this site are not the same as those used on the Wiki. Last I checked, there was nothing wrong with that.

You want to name this character this name? You want to name that character that name? The Wiki is not stopping you. No one is.

Alula and Princess Erroria are actually not the same filly. The former name refers to the yellow pegasus filly, the latter only to the yellow alicorn filly. Some fics have them being the same filly who has two different identities, but they are still not the same filly officially.
I see tagger getting that wrong here on Derpibooru all the time, too.
