We’re not talking about generic dragons, or a generic dragon leader, we’re talking about Spike, he didn’t deserve to have a generic copies model.
Agreed. Here someone has made a very big mistake, this is not Spike from G4, he is not recognizable and the appearance… It’s like the abnormal birds and rabbits from the ANG movie, who was the person behind these disgusting designs? And why were these approved in the first place? At the time, it was a big surprise for us, who were used to lifelike animals in G4, where animals such as birds and small animals had a normal appearance to us. Although these are tolerated, it was obvious that many did not appreciate the strange design of the animals from ANG, which continued into MYM. The animals in TYT were far more pleasant to watch in comparison. Why ugly designs were chosen for the animals while the ponies were pleasant to look at has eluded me.
Why had Berrow chosen to continue this, and then transfer it to the dragons? They are reminiscent of reptilian horses especially by looking at their teeth, and are so pony-like that this is in violation of established traditions ever since G1 regarding dragons. The first Spike in G1 was bipedal. Even if there were dragons that walked on all fours, they usually had hands. All G4 dragons were bipedal or had hands with few exceptions. I think Berrow may have believed that this could be done because she saw what happened in the G4 episode “Secret of My Excess” from S2, when Spike had gone through several phases before becoming fifty feet tall - and in one of these the phases were his appearance minus the wings just like what we have seen.
Then it was possible to see that Spike, after robbing Pinkie, was walking on all fours and his hands had shrunk into a hoof-like foot. And just before that, he walked around with long arms with visible claws that stuck just like the G5 dragons, and walked on two or four legs. Then it means that Berrow approved the design for the G5 dragons - including Spike - because she believes this was determined by the G4 episode. She may have thought that a dragon will grow in several phases and may have believed that Spike’s appearance would not be controversial.
Wrong. Very wrong. She chose a common design for all the dragons and didn’t make an exception for Spike when she should, as he was supposed to be bigger by being older than the other dragons. We would have no problem seeing a large dragon, on two or four legs, if he resembles the large dragon we have seen from “Secret of My Excess” and the IDW comics. The fault was that this dragon was no different from others, if he was bigger and a bit more muscular with long claws and hands - we would have loved this Spike from G5. Instead, we are experiencing a real downturn. Last time, the fake Grogar turned out to be Discord.
And; Berrow had chosen an episode from S2 to justify the design on Spike. This sounds like a confirmation of the rumors that the G5 cannot use the G4 lore from S4 to S9. In S9, Spike had become a hunk - here we see a teenage-like dragon.
God see us in grace, if TYT is going to show Spike, make him bigger and tougher!!!
