MLP G5 Discussion and Speculation Thread

So it is only a “rediscovered tribe” that came from the early Crystal Empire - the pictures of the buildings suggest that this is a settlement of recent date. Crystal ponies with horns have not been seen in the TV series of G4, but in the comics - especially Radiant Hope - it has been seen that these existed back then. These form a small minority in a poorly known society because the crystal ponies and the umbrum had a mysterious relationship with each other.
It is possible that the Wishing Star will appear in SoS, as the light shows in the sky as the music played showed a star that undoubtedly looked like the Wishing Star. There are quite a few star symbols, most based on Twilight’s cutie mark and power symbol which are two different marks. So the New Mane 6 and the crystal unicorns celebrate the same thing, the Winter Wishday.
Nothing to suggest “secrets” so far. 100% G5 lore.
It is possible that the Bridlewood unicorns had contact with these crystal unicorns, as it is possible that Misty’s mother may have been from this tribe - the design of her horn is unusual. All bridlewood unicorns have long and symmetrical, sharp horns reminiscent of those the Canterlot unicorns had in the previous generation. But Misty from the very beginning has an asymmetrical horn that is angular in several places. Not as angular as the horns on these new unicorns.

i think it too, the chapter one lighting didn’t do her design justice tbf
Yeah the first shots weren’t flattering but with time it’s shown that the animation has gotten better and overall her design is actually fine and not worth all the hullabaloo people gave her initially. Similarly I’ve always like that she is essentially a throwback to taking the series into “Saturday night cartoon” origins by being a reoccurring villain.

Grogar even while long gone, still has an influential presence. He’s like Death, he’s not physical but he’s there. Point is, wasn’t there a Chimera who talks? Because that’s my impression of that winged leopard creature.

@Briarlight
But is she really a simple winged leopard or is she something more? Maybe there’s a whole race of winged leopards that for whatever reason Twilight was unaware of, Grogar’s creation that survived into this new era, someone similar to those Animalcorns from Pony Life, Opaline’s creation (with some lessons from Grogar perhaps) or a chimeric Cunabulan? She’s very brand new.

This is due to two pieces of information; we had learned in S8 that monsters composed of different animals - chimeric creatures - did not occur naturally even in the magical world, and then we learned in S9 that Grogar had created monsters, thus the “father of monsters”, and that these with few exceptions can be chimeric. Then it becomes quite natural that Grogar had left behind all chimeric creatures, both intelligent and beasts.
Because if he had an empire that might have been huge, his monsters would have provided control and oppression while also being a source behind his magical power by instilling fear in the oppressed. But he needed soldiers, workers and bureaucrats as loyal collaborators. It will not be enough to bring in these who will reject anyone for the sake of power, he would have to create them. Probably all chimeric creatures - especially those with human features - were created by Grogar, who may have been behind the griffons and dragons. Cunabula could have been his experiment site.
The fan theory that Discord was Grogar’s greatest achievement and his “son” has never been answered, but is very popular. From S10, you get a vague hint that they had thought of making Grogar the ponies’ answer to the god Hanbi from the human world. God of evil, ruler of demon hordes, master of chaos and creator of monsters. Hanbi is one of the very few gods in several millennia of civilized history who was 100% evil, and he came from Mesopotamia. So evil that his name was rarely mentioned and quickly forgotten afterwards. As with Grogar.
Almost everything about the ponies’ magic is very different from what Grogar represented, as if these were the opposite ideology, among other things the ponies preferred to improvise rather than create other creatures.
We don’t know who these two creatures are, or what kind of role they have, but these are the villains in SoS.

I’ve always taken Cunabula and the normal primal beasts to be different but now making them all related to Grogar, especially Cunabula, sounds like a better idea.
The cunabulans were supposed to be the “beginning of civilizations” with their clothes, fashion and appearance, the word itself means “original home” or simply “cradle”. Not only are these chimeric, there are signs of suspicious dark magic practices, not least because the “knights” from one thousand years ago were completely similar to these today without being the same. They may have acquired elemental magic by chance long after they had been isolated, possibly as a consequence of the collapse of Grogar’s empire. Grogar may have used the island for his own purposes, it could be where he made his first experiments, hence the word “cradle” about the island. It could explain so much about the cunabulans.
The aq bars, the winged snow leopard, in our world was the totem animal of a Turko-Bulgarian tribe in central Asia, the Barsils, which may mean “leopard clan”, which has left very few descriptions before disappearing into history over a thousand years ago. One of the descriptions was that the tribe lived on “an island” and surrounded themselves with flocks of sheep.
There are mythological animals based on felines with wings, and these usually originate in Eurasia - more precisely in central Asia, so aq bars are not out of place in the mythological structure of the G4/G5 world. Much of the mythology that has formed the basis for the many G4/G5 creatures is taken from today’s Middle East and the Mediterranean region. This means that the aq bars may have existed for a long time, and they may be intelligent as signs of intelligent behavior have been seen in the SoS.
It is possible that Grogar or others who shared his ideology regarding the use of magic on living beings had created aq bars for their own mystical purposes. However, it must not be forgotten that it has happened that pony magic can lead to animals getting “additions” such as horns or wings, so Grogar cannot automatically be accused of having created the aq bars.

This is one of the problems with having made opaline the big bad of g5 once she is defeated…..what now?
You start a new arc with a new villain that lasts throughout the arc would be the ideal. Much in the same way Opaline’s worked. And you can introduce them out of the blue easy enough. Nothing crazy to pull off and done plenty of times before.

@Background Pony #411E
I know that but the case of the g5 is a little more complicated.
in g4 it was easier because the villains only appeared in the first two and/or last two episodes of the season so to make a villain in g4 that was it
1-think of a plot for two episodes
2-think of a villain that looks cool
3- give a brief explanation about their origin (optional) and why they didn’t attack before (preferably “sealed”)
4- make them try to conquer Equestria and/or steal the ponies’ magic in a big attack.
5- are defeated by the power of friendship
6- profit
7-repeat
but opaline raised the standards of a villain to g5 because she has been there since the beginning and has a lot of importance in the story, so replacing her and maintaining the standard would be more difficult, possibly it would be something like this
1-think of an overarching plot of the show
2-think about how the villain interacts with the rest of the world.
3- give some explanation of their origin(it is not optional considering that they will be nearby) and why they didn’t attack before(preferably “there was no magic”)
and why aren’t they attacking now.
4- make them increase the danger scale throughout the episodes so they can then carry out the big attack
5- defeated by the power of friendship.
6- profit
7- repeat
