Following up this rhetorical question, I made an interesting discovery. Had Tell Your Tale not switched to a bi-weekly schedule, Episode 53 would’ve aired on March 16. Whether Make Your Mark Chapter 4 was planned to air on the same week or the week after Episode 53, it seems our early surmising about MYM returning in March would’ve been correct.

I thought the g5 movie IS the pilot.

G4 ended almost 4 years ago, and still gets more fanart and fanfiction than G5.

Was G4 that good, or is G5 just that unremarkable?

Dude g5 only came out like, 2 years ago FIM has been around for nearly a de age of course FIM is gonna have more fan content then G5

Most likely because of the lame release schedule, fan artists hardly get anything new to draw. Keep in mind we’re still in “season one” of the entirety of G5

That movie is the introduction for the new generation. The pilot for the 3D show is in fact the special that premiered on this date of last year.

Let’s also not forget that people are more attracted to what they are already familiar with. Thus, they are more inclined to produce fan content for what they are already familiar with.

well you said that the movie is an introduction, which pretty much qualities as a pilot in general if you think about it.

in my opinion the one thing hasbro shouldn’t have done if they wanted hype for G5 was lead with the movie. they should have just started with mym and ran the movie later on as an origin story for how everything got where it was.

theyd have to massively rewrite alot of g5 for that to happen, and at that point the movie would be redundant

The start of a generation’s media and a pilot for a TV series are still two different things. There’s a need for distinction, since you wouldn’t call the pilot for Tell Your Tale the movie, correct? No, because while the fifth generation chronologically begins with the movie, Tell Your Tale chronologically begins with Sisters Take Flight.

If they had started with the TV series, I’m sure less people would’ve known about it without the splash the movie made and appreciated it less without the movie solidifying the reason why we should care about the new characters beforehand. Had the movie come out later, it would’ve just been praised as “that one surprisingly good thing to come from G5 besides Portrait of a Princess” by the overly critical crowd and then said crowd would’ve gone right back to their regular complaining.

Yep. G5 needed to start with a movie, otherwise it wouldn’t be as successful as it is now (more successful than G2).

That’s not even a question in my mind, starting with the movie was undoubtedly the right choice.

Earlier discussion about the quality of G5 limiting its appeal? Imagine how much worse that would be if we didn’t start with the most well received piece of G5 media, and instead with the mediocre Chapter 1.

And from a story perspective, why would Chapter 1 be a better place to start than the actual beginning that establishes the setting and characters?

Tbh ch 1 still is completely skippable lore wise. The only thing that happens is the earth magic and that could be changed easy. Mym should’ve started with ch 2

Don’t forget Sparky was born in that Chapter. But that’s not that important, he doesn’t add a lot to the story anyway

My main point is that all the important stuff could’ve easily fit into ch 2 and made it better
