Spike feeling sadness and grief over the loss of his friends from so long ago would’ve been a really great way to take his character and add a little bit more conflict in the story of him being jaded over Opaline and having the ponies and the other dragons reassure him that everything is fine.

Oh yeah, that would’ve been awesome. This is My Little Pony though. We only get one line in the G5 movie about Sunny lamenting the loss of her dad.

It’s hard to be sure since the exact order of events is always spoken of rather vaguely, but I’d gotten the impression that most of Spike’s friends were already (most likely long-since) dead by the time he was sleeping. It would force a lot of events into a very short time if they hadn’t been.

if we look with the comics

-crystals and dragonstone were created
With the crystals were created by the mane six

-twilight put the dragons into hibernation and created the bubble in equestria

-the separation of the tribes happened

so there are chances that yes spike separated from his friends when They are alive…

yeah you’re right, besides historically the comics don’t align with the timeline the g5 comics were clearly written with incomplete information

Small nitpick, but I think they should have put the all of the mane six rather than just Twilight in the flashback/painting scene when Spike was telling the story.

Spike also casually spoke of being in magical hibernation for centuries, so even if they were to be alive before said event, I think he would’ve already come to terms with the fact that his friends wouldn’t be alive when he awakened.

I mean, g5 technically has continuity errors. But I guess it’s only one taking the past that is g4, and other media like Tell your Tale which is a parallel to Make your Mark and the comics.

I know of no continuity errors within its own continuity. Not everything that’s changed from G4 is explained, but seriously, is it really a big deal? …Don’t answer that question.

It’s just that, well…you know the kind of crowd that takes the “continuity errors” super seriously. XD

I bet they’ll start showing up once MYM does get renewed, but under a different team. I bet $50 it’ll start to happen. All the flaws from g4 repeating in g5. It just needs time for the inevitable.

Under a different team? Yeah, that could happen. I’ve brought up in the past how they could have it developed internally by Hasbro Entertainment to avoid the delays that happened at Atomic Cartoons. I also enjoy how we can talk about G5 flaws and things people didn’t like about MYM Chapter 6 rationally here. The kind of hate this chapter is getting over things people are straight up not understanding while trying to frame it as “the worst of G5”…it’s a JOKE. >.<

Spike talked about friends in the plural, so I also think that he probably went into hibernation when the rest of the main 6 were still alive because they were his most important friends, almost family. And yes poor guy really had to come to terms with the fact that they wouldn’t be alive when he woke up.

They say “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. But a miss is more noticeable than a shot not taken. G5 was actively trying to have continuity, while G4 had continuity when it felt like it, so G5’s continuity errors are more noticeable than G4’s quiet lack of effort.

Overall, G5 raised the bar when it came to continuity. Case in point: The Discord Arc of the comics. People were ready to declare in “non-canon” because the encounter with Discord was never brought up again. Meanwhile, never bringing up a villain again was par for the course in G4.

Why not just cut out the middleman and straight up admit that they’re all dead and that when he woke up, he feels that ping of loss and grief from seeing her closest friends all dead?

Why do these things have to be so black-and-white with everyone

It’s not a matter of “admitting” anything, given the info we have, I think it makes more sense that every event leading up to the fall of Equestria didn’t all happen within a matter of years.

That doesn’t mean that’s not how it might ultimately turn out, just what made the most sense to me at that moment.

There’s the big problem with G5 - Hasbro proudly promoted it as a sequel to “Friendship is Magic” knowing full well they’d be limited in the degree to which they could actually treat it as such.

Unless you count the continuity errors between G4 and G5 - weather taking care of itself, the sun and moon moving without pony magic, Sparky being born with wings where Spike had to wait until puberty.

Although not directly explained, one explanation that can be presumed for all those things is that the world has evolved since G4, thus why there are now creatures like bunnicorns and pegasnails in Equestria.

What of certain major events happening separately and slightly differently in “Make Your Mark” and “Tell Your Tale”? You have the creation of the Marestream, Misty realizing that working for Opaline wasn’t a good career move (not to mention the magic amulet), and the final confrontation with Opaline.

There is growing frustration with the script behind MYM, which contains many contradictions and which does not safeguard the legacy of G4 for the fans and new viewers. All this seemed to boil down to two facts; firstly Meghan McCarthy’s legacy - Bellows who is behind the script is in her “school” where they want to make sure that Twilight will not outlive her friends - and secondly; the rumors that Discovery Family has banned Hasbro from using the lore from G4, to which they have rights.

If the original draft for the movie which was supposed to take place several millennia after G4 was adopted, we would have minimal G4 influence as the ponies would have lived in a very alien and more hostile world in the aftermath of war. Sunny and her friends would have found each other by forming bonds of friendship across hostility, painful past and hope for better time, by recalling the memory of the legends of G4. It would have been wonderful if Twilight’s books had appeared, so that Sunny could be inspired to start her adventure, and we could have seen real firearms, advanced machines and other things that hint at a violent past. The drafts suggest that it was a long time after Twilight disappeared, and Opaline was probably not created as an antagonist, perhaps she was one of several alicorns from the time between G4 and G5. In a new world, so much would have changed, many cities would have disappeared or been renamed.

But then came the veto from Hasbro, and this threw us into the current situation. However, it was decided to reuse the lore from G4, at this time DF and Hasbro were not in conflict with each other, and instead of letting war be the reason for the magic disappearing, they developed the Unity Crystals as a direct invention of Twilight as the cause . This “solution” triggers more questions, and for every question that is answered, there are only more questions. Opaline had to be brought in, possibly Grogar was meant to be an important part of G5, but because he appeared in S9, a new Grogar had to be developed - and probably there wasn’t time, and it was undoubtedly felt that a new antagonist should serve as the first in the G5. But - when DF put a stop to all use of the lore on G4 - Opaline got a bigger role than intended, and she then becomes more than just a “step” in the development of the new heroes, she got the main villain role.

Already in C2, irregularities were seen that are not answered, including why the earth ponies’ magic was out of control without Opaline being involved. MYM only ends with many unanswered questions and an impression of disappointment because the movie was a very good beginning with great potential - which Bellows was unable to fulfill for reasons that may be due to McCarthy’s influence and restrictions imposed on her by Hasbro and DF.

Since October, Hasbro has so far refused to respond to speculation that G5 has been sabotaged by the rights dispute between Hasbro and DF over G4, especially from S4 to S9. This must be forced so that we can know what had actually happened, because this has put G5’s future in doubt and could put My Little Pony’s entire future in grave danger. Hasbro must - MUST - answer this.

When Spike learned that the ponies had lost their magic, he just wants to go to sleep. A lot of people sympathize with him, especially after a page from a planned book in 2022 was revealed by a leak source that revealed that if the crystals are separated from each other for too long, the magic will disappear by itself. This restarted the “Twilight’s idiot ball” affair for many G4 fans. From C3 we learned that the guardians who were in charge of the crystals simply forgot their obligations.

This was poor work by the scriptwriters who could not keep their promises, so they have to time and again disappoint the viewers who are interested in G5.

It was a very promising start for the G5, the first draft showing that they were serious about having a more “mature” worldview in the next generation. Then everything starts to go wrong.
