I think in order for it to be based on the Trump era, there would have to be some indication of that?

The synopsis looks decent enough. I am looking forward to it.

What time period is this gen even going for? Gen 4 looked like it was in the Victorian era and then sometimes it looked like it was going on in the Roaring Twenties. Since this is going to be in the future it looks plausible it might be modern, but then it would feel like gen 5 would be a another attempt at MLP Tales…

Pony apartheid :S I Maybe it is just for the first movie? I don’t know if it is in the same universe as G4. As you say, we need more info.

Well, it’s called Equestria, but then, G3 had a Ponyville… but I’m afraid it probably is ae we feared. (Well, as I feared - your fears overlap in some places but differ in others.)

What if, gen 5 is the outcome of a alternate timeline gen 4? From what we see in the little picture you’d think there would be something that showed us evidence of Princess Twilight.Maybe this timeline Twilight didn’t become a alicorn.

I believe it to be an alternate timeline/universe/dimension personally. I don’t think G4 is directly related to G5.
 
What are you worried for?

Not to scare monger here, but can you imagine if they did the unthinkable and it turns out the entire events of G4 FIM were a dream in Sunny’s head? and the mane six and Co are characters in a book/comic that Sunny is a fan of and she is striving to make her world just like it is in her comic books?  
Imagine if it turns out everything we witnessed, all the characters we came to love were nothing but figments of this rando’s imagination based on the superheroes from her comic.  
Can you imagine the fan response?

Guys, it’s obvious that is a sequel. Stop acting like it is not. We already have enough information to confirm that it is. Or did we forget about Kidscreen’s article?

It is in the G4 universe?

I have a theory for why the G5 ponies have seemingly human names:  
Magic disappeared long ago, as a result, cutie marks never appear, and so destiny is never determined. So the ponies just started recycling names, and the human names are just a translation, like how Beth is derived from YHWH. Similarly, Sitting Bull is a translation of Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake. I wonder if pony names are like stereotypical Native American names in that sense…

No. It’s not an alternative timeline. As cool as that sounds. Even if Equestria is not full of harmony in the future does not mean Twilight and her friends failed. It just that nothing lasts forever. There is no such thing as eternal peace. Our little Twilight did what she could and it worked. But again nothing lasts forever. There will always be disharmony, fear, hatred but that does not mean people won’t fight them. Sunny Starscout is a great example here. She is showing that hope is not lost. That harmony is possible. The world of Equestria needs ponies like her.

Huh, it is a Picard case then. I wonder if it’s set so far ahead in time even hyper-Twilight died from old age. Quite the depressing scenario imo, most of G4 for naught.
