Making a direct sequel taking place after the future seen in The Last Problem at all would be a mistake, considering the world was pretty much already perfect as shown in the future as seen in The Last Problem. Good enough that the only good way to write G5 as a show taking place in the far future while still having its target audience is to make it consistently ridiculously light-hearted compared to G4, even with the stretched boundaries.

Since the pegasus is the main character, I’m guessing she’ll get plenty of love from the fandom. The unicorn, not so much. I think the hippogriff will be on the lower end of the popularity poll. The kirin is probably going to have a personality somewhere between Fluttershy and Pinkie so upper middle tier along with the changeling. Best guess?

On yet another hand, not happy about tripling down on the stark tech/architecture differences between areas, even if their is a justification of sorts.
 
I mean, changelings hording the cyber enhancements? I’m not buying it. And it pisses me off because magic bugs should be using zerg ‘tech’.
 
And, it may even all be bullcrap, but i made this thread to wildly speculate.

Why would changelings need tech enhancements anyway? They can turn into anything!  
Also, if changeling are zerg and ponies terran what are the protoss?

Maybe they lost their natural magic long ago and had to make up for it.
 
You know cyberpunk, there’s always some rot infesting the inner workings.
 
Also, I’m sure unicorns are the closest to protoss.

Hm… Now there’s an interesting idea. Unicorns, alicorns, centaurs, Discord and changelings are the only creatures shown to use spells. Hippogriffs, kirin and changelings can transform but changelings aren’t limited in what they can turn into. If the alicorns in charge are powerful enough, they could be the ones behind changelings losing their magic resulting in them adapting through technological innovation.

I’m really curious what the color scheme for these characters will be. Got a feeling the pegasus is gonna be on the cooler end of the spectrum and the unicorn on the warmer end.

I think there’s some kind of political joke in the pegasus character having a half-functional left wing.
 
If so, then there’s yet another reason to worry.
 
Not to mention the unfortunate implications regarding the pace of medical technology. If the changelings have readily available cybernetics, one would expect they’d be able to fix her up.

Someone reminded me of the animatic, and I analyzed it a bit:

Looks like an earth pony to me. None of “the new six main characters” as “explained” in the posts are earth ponies:
  1. Pegasus (“The Main character”)
  2. Unicorn
  3. Bat pony
  4. Hippogriff
  5. Kirin
  6. Changeling
EDIT: And just now I noticed those “new six characters” are G4’s Mane Six. But I think there’s something strange about the fact that in the 30-second animatic, every single time time characters other than the one shown onscreen appear, it’s the G4 Mane Six. Even though its filename was “opening-scene-song” (as shown for the source for one of the animatic’s uploads: >>2529182). Shouldn’t only two or three shots showing G4’s Mane Six be enough?
