Maybe it has to do with the “popular mare” shipped with the “unpopular stallion”, also the fandom has always been favoring mares over stallions for long.
It’s kind of like the toxicity of idol and “waifu” culture prevalent in anime fandoms. Fans generally do not like seeing their waifus shipped or be in a relationship with another, implied or not.

Based on the movie, Sprout also hates them but he focused more on unicorns because Izzy came to town.
There was also the opening scene when he was a kid. He was playing with the Rarity figure and was denied unicorn cupcakes. So audience impression of him was more connected to unicorns.

That’s what you’re supposed to do, though. The most interesting strengths can also be weaknesses, depending on the situation. So you’d use a variety of situations to showcase the strengths and weaknesses of a character. You’d also use different characters to explore how best to handle a situation. But that’s a bit off-topic.
The whole point of To Where and Back Again was that Chrysalis went after a bunch of important, high-profile characters, so it fell to a small group of less-important characters to save the day. If anything, it’s a testament to how many characters you need out of the picture before Starlight gets to do any world-saving.

There’s really nothing special about the ship. I just like opposites attracting. Why it triggers people is beyond me.
It’s a cute ship. Not my personal headcanon, but I can appreciate it. Having somebody like Izzy in his life could dramatically change Sprout for the better, and bring out a positive side of him we’ve not yet seen.
It is unfortunate that some people react negatively to some ships, but try not to let the dissidents bother you too much. It’s just a side effect of immaturity. With time hopefully they’ll come to understand that just because a ship doesn’t make sense to them doesn’t mean that it can’t possibly be hugely important to somebody else.

Remember though, shipping is something that gives many people great pleasure. It’s one of those satisfying things like wandering Damascus in Assassin’s Creed for the first time.
I don’t think people should be obsessed, (I know I was when I wanted Zutara or BBTerra shippers to die in a fire as a kid) but I think the people on Reddit should understand that people have their own reasons for shipping characters even if they can’t see it.
As long as people aren’t obsessed, I think shipping is one of those great pleasures like looking at a beautiful painting.

Its not about being obsessed. Its more like a person sees this art or thread about a ship they don’t like and they go in there and reee hard because someone likes something they don’t like. That’s when it gets toxic.

I like the ship. But shipping aside, who would pass off an episode where characters like Izzy and Sprout try to annoy each other. Sprout is very grumpy and unicorns terrify him but Izzy keeps bothering him going “Hi new friend” all day.

I don’t think one character from the G5 film is an Applejack descendant just because she said “Sugarcube”. Considering that this film took place many many many moons after the events of G4, I think it’s just a common word in this context.

I agree. I don’t need to hear a rant about how Izzyscout is better if the art is about Izzysprout. If you don’t like it then find another place to be that will make you more satisfied. I know I still have that problem at times.
