First 2 sounds to me like “no big deal” for both. Which I definitely expected you to say. It’s not important, well except for the very pony she idolised, because she didn’t do all that for nothing. Sunny and friends are sadly proving the detractors right since they haven’t bothered to fix it because…
What are you even saying here? The whole “The Starscouts wanted to rediscover the world” is something you made up.
Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try. I guess the only upgrade over Twilight is that all of them are not nerdy bookworms. The positive term for them is smart. And none had the booksmarts nor even epiphany to even think of such to begin with. But you know, it’s not important, right. Whatever problems outside theirs isn’t theirs.
In ANG, Sunny did not spend her days researching places to visit, nor did she just head off in a random direction in search of friends and problems to solve. She wanted to make friends with the other tribes because of stories her father told her, but didn’t go to Zephyr Heights or Bridlewood until Izzy showed up. She was never one to venture off without some external force prompting her first.
Hell, in G4, they didn’t even reach out to the other species until Season Five.
I didn’t think you would include places that we’ll never visit or explore further or even the comic locations.
If we’re talking about the number of locations in G5, then yes, I’m going to include locations in G5.
I don’t think you actually watched ANG or MYM, or know the premise of any of the comics. Or if you did, you didn’t pay attention.

I guess the point I was trying to make is, they have a tonne of pre-existing material to work with but none was used at all. The breezies came up because it was easier to remodel the existing pony. Violette and the zebras never appeared in MYM if not because of some sensitivity issue but they didn’t want to deal with texturing Violette because people would complain even of the slight inaccurate placement or shape of patches. And there’s still the ongoing unsolved rumour of the rights thing. Why make a sequel when you can’t use the original material anyway? It’s like a sequel to “Batman” but he doesn’t show up because he’s not allowed to be used or featured. Maybe that’s why these people didn’t want it to be a sequel, not because of “bad writing” but because little to no elements was even used anyway. A reboot like they always did every gen would’ve lessened the problems as they’re technically by the entertainment’s standards, an alternate universe with familiar yet completely different characters. Another nerdy princess, another shy lily, another diva, all in everything but name and appearance. It would’ve been fine by me as well. Too late now to undo all that I suppose.

You really need to work on not using absolute statements. Because I can list quite a few G4 things that are used in G5:
  • Twilight created an artifact: The Unity Crystals
  • The industriousness of pegasi is reflected in Zephyr Heights
  • We get an entire comic arc about Discord, and he’s used as a device to show just how hard the Unity Crystals are to destroy.
  • The Daring Do books are used in that arc
  • They do visit the ruins of Canterlot. But other than its iconic architecture, Canterlot didn’t have much of an identity
  • Celestia and Luna are used to show just how old Opaline is
  • Spike’s letter-sending is expanded on; it’s a breath power, and each of the dragons has a unique one.
  • Skyros is an “Alicorn Homeland”, which was an idea from The Journal of the Two Sisters
  • The Breezies have more going on in G5 than they did in G4.
I was originally skeptical about G5 being a sequel to G4. This is because G4 is in a really awkward spot; it’s full of things that are too iconic to just throw away, but it’s also really not a robust setting. The world of G4 is very inert and stagnant. It isn’t affected by events. A lot happens, but 99% of what happens does not matter the next day, much less hundreds of years in the future. It’s filled with things that were established, but not used. It’s a collection of trivia, rather than a living place. I’d argue the only places that consistently felt “alive” were Sweet Apple Acres, Mt. Eris, The Kirin Village, and the home of The Changelings after Chrysalis was overthrown.
When we got the Discord arc, people complained that it was “too soon” to bring back G4 stuff. When we saw Twilight in MYM, people complained that they were relying too heavily on G4, and that G5 couldn’t stand on its own. G4 had a bad habit of haphazardly establishing things without any plan to follow up. The result is that G4 is littered with stories that feel incomplete. G5 does not just go “recognize this and clap, you sheep”. It brings back G4 things when they serve a function.
In conclusion, G5 does bring back things from G4; you just don’t seem to notice or remember when it does.

one of the g4 things I wonder where Scorpan is, he had so much potential and he didn’t even show up, only almost in the 2017 film in the conceptual arts and I also remember that there was this kind of idea of ​​Skyros with Cosmos who would be the alicorn brother Luna and Celestia in the film

Same. Though even nostalgia would be a little more interesting if they varied it up a little…it’s always G1 (excluding Tales), Minty (and only Minty) from G3, and now G4. Most of G2-G3 is ignored entirely.
To an extent I get it, it’s been long enough that we’re in G4’s nostalgia cycle for people who joined during the zeitgeist and dropped off before it ended. But it shouldn’t really come at the cost of the current Gen, which is how it feels it’s going to go.

Yeah, they want to get everyone “all aboard the nostalgia train”. No confirmation of G6, no confirmation of anything going on with G5. Disappointing, because I’m done with “going back to the past”. I want new things.
So Ponyverse exists, then that means G5 will continue under a new brand for the rest of the decade - TYT 2.0 will continue into the next year where IDW comics will likely take over with new arc comics, that might explain why they rushed it to end the Storm arc which was supposed to continue into 2026. There will not be a new generation. Instead, G1, G3 (to some extent), G4 and G5 will continue as the “Ponyverse”.
As G4 is more or less finished, it must then mean that they will then have a focus on both the past, future and alternate dimension of the original which in any case is “put to death” in the year 2019. That means that G5 will continue, but more integrated into G4 than before - and this may mean that IDW comics may play an important role throughout the year 2015 while TYT 2.0 is brought to its conclusion, which may happen sometime next spring.
Then we can hope that G5 will be revived when the G4 lore is reintroduced, so that Sunny can achieve her potential and her friends settle into the new world. The Storm arc will be about the future Queen Storm, where Zipp will ensure her future. It is possible that this arc could be the beginning of a cementing of G5 under the brand “Ponyverse”.
And - if G1, G4 and G5 are mixed together - the possibility of the clash of the millennium between the Ruler of Fear and the Princess of Hope could become a reality in 2026-28. It could be like the fight between Saitama and Garou from “One Punch Man”.

My theory is Hasbro wants to move away from monolithic brand-wide gens entirely. I think they want more of a rolling model where nothing ever actually ends. Sure there’ll always be a new thing to hook a new generation of kids, but they don’t want those kids ever aging out because a single generation of kids just isn’t a big enough market anymore. If they hook an audience they never want to be done with that audience.
They want G4 back, and they want G4 fans to stick around forever. But they also want G5 fans to stick around forever. And when there’s finally a G6, they want G6 fans to stick around forever. At that point G5 won’t hold the spotlight anymore but they’ll never stop marketing it entirely. They want it to be its own market segment forever, while G4 is its own market segment forever, and G6 is its own market segment forever.

The Italian Disney model, in other words.
I don’t think there will be new production of G4 beyond comics and games, but “alternative dimension” views can be brought up in Disney style - several hundred stories come out from Italy - every month. For even common lore is used, it was always timeless and endless.
G1 can be recreated in G4 guise and we have seen beginning signs of this in TYT. Classic G4 is a little too hard-boiled for today’s children.
G5 can be continued in the same track as before, which was already laid out in the ANG movie, regardless of whether there will be MYM, TYT or comics in the future. So all the ponies from all generations will enter a common “universe” - Ponyverse - G1 as the past, G3/G4 as the present and G5 as the future. Already at the beginning of G4, the first signs of a merger had begun, which gradually over the years becomes stronger and stronger. G5 in reality completed the development in its final conclusion because it becomes clear that one cannot bypass G4.
My Little Pony will still have generations, but as part of a shared existence, the “Ponyverse”. So when the G6 arrives, it will just join the other generations. It can happen that different people can cross the generation gaps both as cross-over and as historical figures, the Japanese MLP manga (which is so far the only thing shown Megan Williams in the G4 universe) can be used as a guide for the future authors of publications.
The possibilities can thus become endless.

I actually think it may be because they want G5 to continue along with the retro stuff.
It is to be hoped that the dark emperor of all he sees and the alicorn that lit up the darkness will one day meet. Fear versus Hope is a popular topic, and it is possible that this may have been intended as the finale of G5 when the ANG movie was finished, we did see a certain bell which gives grounds for speculation.
But it is not long until the Storm arc will start, when a future queen will prove herself and we will see the first “meeting” between predecessor and successor across the generations. There is something to look forward to. And it’s possible that the Ponyverse could provide many upcoming stories for current and future fans.

So I got around to finishing Set Your Sail, and then I had to read it again. It’s really well-written, and there’s a bunch of details that I only noticed on a second reading.
I really like this modular approach to storytelling. Instead of juggling a bunch of different ongoing plots that may or may not get continued, they’re committed to telling stories that reach a logical stopping point and end properly. Your level of investment in the generation is entirely up to you.
