Lyra and Bon Bon are a bad shipping?

I see many people taking Lyra and Bon Bon as a shipping (which is already canon), but for my idea, I may need to change the two as just being friends, because shipping them would be a bad idea. So, whenever I make artworks featuring these two with other ponies, I would try not to get them close as possible in order to avoid the “LyraBon” shipping as possible.
 
My canon would be different, as Lyra would have to date a different pony rather than Bon Bon.

I say go for it. I never liked the ship either, and nobody ever draws them shipped with anyone else.

I never liked it because it was very forced ship since the beginning.  
But I’d say Rarijack is way more overrated and non canon

Yes, I agree. It was predicated solely on them standing next to each other in a few shots, which you could say about a lot of other ponies too. By that logic, why wasn’t Lyra shipped with Derpy, Linky, Amethyst Star, Cloudkicker, or Dizzy Twister?

Sure, it’s a pretty random shipping, or was at least. But I’m still waiting to hear why it would be a bad idea.

Your art, you decide what you want to make. You don’t need any justification beyond, “it’s what I want to create.” Your personal art also forms its own canon, dictated entirely by your choices. If you want to link more than one piece of art you create as a continuity, you dictate what is canon to that continuity. For whatever reason you want.
 
None of that makes for a particularly interesting conversation though. You say the ship doesn’t work for your idea. That’s something to have a conversation about. Why doesn’t it work for your idea?
 
All this other focus in the thread so far about general canon/good or badness is irrelevant. Context matters.
