Rarity wins it again with her character focus episode.
 
Of course RD nuked some baddies in hers. So a firm second for her.
 
Then of course Twilight sang a short ponified “Call Me Maybe” which won her +20 Charm Points for me.

The comic may start to contradict the show. In the latest issue, the mane 6 can use the power of the elements without the need of the necklaces and the big crown thingy. If FiM ever show them start to know how to use them that way (probably at the end of the series), it will officially regard IDW comic is alternate canon.
 
Also, the comic showed that the S1 Luna is her weakened form.

Huh, that issue 8 was pretty sweet. But I guess my headcanon about the necklaces and crown being nothing but costume jewelry and the elements are really inside the hearts of the bearers is kind of true…

I also had the same theory. The so-called elements are just a catalyst to make things easier.

Makes things easier, possibly. Is kind of like the Alicorn Amulet in terms of needing ability to control it, maybe.
 
But a placebo? Definitely.

So, in the cameo department, I noticed three different versions of the Doctor, and the TV version of Sherlock Holmes.

Just read issue #8. It was awesome, but there is a clear continuity hiccup with Trixie’s reference to Magic Duel given that this comic is set between S2 and S3.
 
In addition to the intangible manifestation of the Elements of Harmony, it also supports the idea that the alicorns, or at least Luna, have both a typical form and a “powered-up” form.

AFAIK it was never stated when the second comic arc was happening, and everything points to this whole thing occurring sometime between Wonderbots Academy and Magical Mystery Cure.

But then why would Twilight even keep the elements in her house? I think the comic is now officially alternate canon.

Celestia gave her the Elements to deal with Discord in his second appearance. She simply never gave them back again. I think.

I think later on, we’re gonna see Post season 3 Twilight once season 4 kicks into full gear. Don’t be surprised if that’s the case.

Actually I would have liked to see that, with him serving as a spotter on a catapult, to allow for him to be a prissy prince afraid to get his hooves dirty, while still contributing meaningfully to the battle.
