As a fan of that series involving magical colourful xenos humans, I am wondering whether is there still anyone who actually hates the “Equestria Girls” series?

I do not mean to hate or attack anyone, but I am just curious. Back then, the first of these movies was so cliche, that it divided the fandom to an amusing extent.

People hated it back then (in 2013) because it was blamed for the third season only having 13 episodes. Which isn’t true, by the way, the third season was planned to only have that amount because they were going to end the series at the 65-episode syndication cap. But a fourth season was ordered and the show continued, and here we are today.

Nowadays, it’s still blamed for being the reason it’s taken so long to get a “real” movie.

Personally I didn’t watch Equestria Girls when it came out and only decided on a whim to watch the first three movies over two years later, and I actually liked them and continue watching that series to this day. Some people won’t like it no matter what but I feel others just didn’t give it a chance.

Hate isn’t the right word, since I’ve never actually seen any of it. I’m just not interested in the concept and probably never will be.

I, for one, have never seen the films, but that’s more because i can’t spare the time. I like the designs myself and plan to watch the specials sometime.

However, i knew some people who filter it,and everyting related to it to this day.

Same thing for me, fellow. As a person who loves background information very much, I am especially interested in the history of the EqG movies’ world, the origin of their colourful race of xenos humans, and the further adventures of certain “unsavoury” characters (such as the Dazzlings and Principal Cinch).

Okay, I guess.
Initially hated it so much for stealing time, talent and money away from FiM, and this comes from a guy who gave it a chance to see if EqG could be any good.

Now I simply ignore that franchise’s existence to avoid headaches and I absolutely refuse to give it any kind of support. If other people likes it, good for them, because it’s their choice, not mine. But as for me, I’ll always resent this franchise’s existence and that’s good, because it’s my choice and not other people’s.

I’ve actually never hated it. Not even the first one, which was not as well received as some of the later ones were. For whatever flaws and oddities the series has (or people think it has), I personally feel like there remains enough heart and humor to make it kind of endearing.

Also I find the contrast between the mundanity of a typical high school experience and the speed at which everyone in the show acclimates to the fact that there’s an interdimensional portal on school grounds (one that occasionally lets actual magic, power mad villains, and the occasional princess of friendship through) fairly amusing. I mean, how jaded do you have to be before that becomes part of your day to day routine?

“Hey, did you study for the test today?”
“No, I kind of lost track of time when that magic battle on the front lawn fractured reality.”
“Yeah, that was crazy… oh well, at least there’s pizza for lunch today.”

EQG manages to piss me off less than the show. Only three things really bother me about EQG.

Plus, it’s home to my favorite character. :p

I think Sunset Shimmer is pretty neat but the whole high school setting just doesn’t do it for me. Don’t really have any plans to watch the movies either.

@Marx
I hate that they’re in high school too. But I still enjoy equestria girls. Cartoons can make easy to forget you’re watching and fangirling over teens.
Background Pony #1A3B
They can’t have them in high school forever though. It’s really being stretched enough as it is, with the entire series so far having taken place in less than a school year.

  • Sunset Shimmer was fall formal princess three years in a row, meaning that the girls are in their senior year
  • The first movie takes place in the fall
  • Rainbow Rocks takes place a few weeks later
  • Friendship Games takes place a few months after Rainbow Rocks
  • Legend of Everfree takes place a few months after Friendship Games
  • Dance Magic (and the other two specials, it’s assumed) take place a few months after Friendship Games and weeks at most after Legend of Everfree

So they have to be nearing the end of high school by now.

Currently I like Equestria Girls, and continually hope that good stories are told with it. I wasn’t always of this mind, though.

At first, I wasn’t all that enthusiastic about it. It really just seemed like an unnecessary cash-grab spinoff that nobody asked for. It didn’t help that the first movie really wasn’t that good. It had several good ideas, and it got some things right, but it had tons of problems and overall it was mediocre at best. I was hoping it’d just be a one-off that we could all just sorta forget about, but obviously that did not happen.

I watched EqG1 to give it a fair chance, and so that I definitely knew what I was talking about when I inevitably got into discussions about it. I watched Rainbow Rocks for the same reason despite not being at all excited for a sequel, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Rainbow Rocks is a legitimately good movie. Virtually every significant problem that the first movie had was fixed in RR, it made very good additions to MLP lore, and it was a heck of a lot of fun. EqG1 was kind of a lemon that hardly anyone wanted, but RR was proof that really sweet lemonade could be made from the premise.

RR made me turn the corner and start legitimately liking the series, and I still do. Sadly Friendship Games was an unmitigated disaster, but thankfully Legend of Everfree was a lot better. My little joke about the quality of EqG is that it inherited the Star Trek Movie Curse: The even-numbered movies don’t suck. On that note, I wonder how the EqG specials will interact with said curse…
FlonnesIkramant

The story and lore of it makes absolutely no sense and is kind of stupid actually but it was somewhat fun to watch. Similar to the comics. So I hope that it will not interact with the canon in any way or be canon because that would ruin everything. Also let’s not discuss the whole canon thing any further, please. For me Equestria Girls isn’t mlp but something else entirely and I can live without it especially if they made more mlp instead but if they don’t it’s not the end of the world.
