The Anti-Censorship DNP Pledge

Unlike how many detractors are portraying this issue, you don’t have to be a Nazi or white supremacist or any other buzzword to see the value in freedom of expression, or to worry about how, even though it’s Aryanne today, it can be anything else tommorow. Just take a look at the replies in Sethisto’s post earlier, or in Derpibooru’s Black Lives Matter announcement.
 
The people celebrating this will always want more. But it needs to stop here.
 
After clear evidence of admin complacency, ignoring our pleas for no censorship, and their vocal support for policies that restrict artist freedom, there is only one thing to be done now.
 
Join me and others in inflicting a Do Not Post order on your artist tag. This will prevent all your future art be uploaded.
 
Since each DNP request must be looked at manually, the sheer scale of the consequences for the staff’s actions will be plainly visible.
 
If you are not an artist, then simply ceasing uploads of art and reconsidering your Patreon pledge will make our voices heard.
 
Even if nothing is done, as I suspect will be the case regardless, this will make joining alternative boorus, which are being built, much grander as they will get art not able to be posted on Derpibooru
 
Please, if you feel strongly about censorship as an issue, if you see the obvious slippery slope that censorship will cause, then join me and many others by requesting a Do Not Post order on your account.
 
To do this, post here denouncing this censorship and report your own post. Click on Other and say you want to DNP your art tag.

Something I will also do, but do not expect others to do, is request a total art wipe under my art tag once a replacement booru is found, if no action is taken. I do not support censorship.

As much as I hate denying my art to be shared anywhere by anyone, it’s becoming all too clear that this may soon be the only reasonable action to take in this situation. There is no venue to have honest conversations or debate and it’s very clear what their intentions are now.

I have already taken my stuff down, its all backed up on my PC so if the site gets fixed somehow or there is a suitable alternative nothing will be lost

I just don’t get why they don’t try stuff like adding a message like “we don’t condone whatever we just host” or something, setup a filter, or allow the system to disable ratings/comments of specifics tags or an artist if he wishes it.

Tensions are high and you want your voice to be heard. I’m not planning on getting in the way of that as long as everything remains civil, and I don’t see any reason why it can’t (even considering the circumstances).

Its getting ignored, not heard.

As a BG pone I support this. Censorship leads to stagnation

I’ve heard this is supposed to be a temporary measure until tensions die down, but if that is not the case, I’m definitely not okay with censoring any content when the tools to hide things people don’t like are there for them to use.
 
If it was always ‘yeah we don’t want this on our site’, I’d have no problem with it, but this is clearly coming from a different kind of place, a place that quickly turns into moral high-grounding when people disagree with it.

You are also not being censored. Nothing about the recent decisions affects what you can or are allowed to draw, just what you can and are allowed to post here. If you really feel the need to make “content that promotes, glorifies, or trivializes nazism” or “content that promotes hatred and/or discrimination against others based on race, gender, or sexuality”, you are welcome to do what all the people who make artwork with underage human looking characters already do and host it elsewhere.
 
Seriously, however much you want to claim it is, this is not some assault on your freedoms. They are addressing a longstanding issue that some of their members have been getting harassed over for years now, and adding two things to an already existing list of all sorts of other stuff they don’t allow.
 
It is not that big of a deal.

Fun fact, that particular Ben Franklin (mis)quote does not mean what you are trying to use it for. His actual statement, “those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety”, was made while defending the authority of a legislature to govern in the interests of collective security. In other words, he meant pretty much the exact opposite of what you are trying to use it for here.

There’s a big spotlight on this place now thanks to the media (the New York Post ran a story on it too, and we’ll no doubt see more picking up on it. Plus FiM staff is starting to pick up on it), and if they suddenly go back on everything the left will come down on this site full force and will probably get it de-platformed (of course /mlpol/ was already plotting on doing this).  
And you think any alternate site that’s started will be free from this? No way they’ll come after them too. It’s starting to look like a lose lose situation across the board.

I think everyone is missing the point of why these people feel uncomfortable to post here now. Most don’t have a issue with saying that black lives matter, most if not all could agree every life has value. But there’s a difference people aren’t seeing and it’s that some people don’t support the organization but support the idea, so when a bunch of pictures were popping up that didn’t differentiate the two and instead started calling people racist and nazis it did make people feel like they were being attacked or their escapism was being used as a mouthpiece for the organization not the cause. Instead of actually handing this and looking at these people as just that, people, the rules were continued to be made stricter and were telling artists what they could and couldn’t draw and post on a site that’s supposed to have been for the community. We’ve seen this with other sites, where the rules got stricter and stricter as tensions are running high and neither side is willing to actually talk, leading to more hate as they make assumptions about eachother like saying it’s all just 4chan when it’s really not, which as some have seen other sites do right before just saying only the opinions the owners/admins/mods have are allowed, killing alot of momentum for artists in a already dieing genre.
 
I think the best TL;DR: These artists don’t hate the site or support nazis, they just want to feel free and have started to see this as the only way to be heard, just like the idea blm has.
 
I hope this doesn’t offend and if it does, I’m sorry. But to make true progress, we have to all be free to debate and express or else we’re doomed to fall deeper into issues we already have as assumptions grow and as does fear, and with fear hate. We don’t need more hate right now.

There’s 3 alternatives being made rn by pretty competent people, though I hesitate to list their resume do to possible harassment by the pro censorship crowd on Twitter and the likes. You’ll definitely hear about it once they come out.
