Tag dictionary

We’re currently working on a few features that should help bring a bit more consistency and information about tags. Currently released (but still in development) is the added information in tags/whatnot, that you can see at the bottom the page as here
 
Obviously, a big part of this is actually getting said descriptions. I’ll be adding these as I go, but we do have quite a few tags, and there are many for which I don’t really have much say in.
 
So this is the topic where we (as in everyone) lists tags that need descriptions, and proposes a Short Description (one short line we can use in many places around the site) and a Detailed Description (which would be displayed in the tags/whatnot page as seen above, and can contain textile formatting).

Could it be used to Define Obscure stuff?

Other than the rating tags, I don’t see how we can make tags clearer. Most tags are already self-explanatory.

I agree, Based on what I’ve heard so far, The only reasons those are needed are for Defining stuff You’re not likely to know just by Reading the Tag (Like Some Other works I’m a fan of)

Tag: Sea Swirl  
Short Description: Unicorn with dolphin cutie mark  
Detailed Description: Sea Swirl (canon name, from blind bag wave 3) or Seafoam (fanon name) is a unicorn mare background pony with two dolphins for a cutie mark. She shares her design with Minuette/Colgate, among others.

I’d consider all the tag wars, misapplied tags and time I (and especially wingbeat, plus several users) spend applying and removing tags to be evidence to the contrary.
 
It also helps with new users to the site that don’t know booru tagging customs like how that “nightmare moon” shouldn’t also be tagged with “princess luna”, and provides a definitive “we use this tag for X, not for Y; see the tag description”.

Yes, that sort of thing. Given we can use textile, an image can be included. That example could help if there’s an image with 20 ponies and you don’t recognize all the names; click, and you’re taken to a page with the description, a focus image, and the normal gallery of images containing the tag.

Tag: Futa  
Short Desc: A character who’s appearance does not match their genitals. Generally feminine characters with male genitals.  
Detail Desc: A character who’s gender is not clearly defined as strictly male or female. Most often used to refer to feminine characters with masculine genitals. See the subtags Herm and Shemale for specifics.

Short Desc: Any character with both male and female genitals.  
Detail Desc: The term for any character who possesses both male and female genitals. A subtag of ‘Futa’. Most often used for feminine characters, but can also apply to masculine characters with both genitals.

Short Desc: Any feminine character with only male genitals.

Detail Desc: Any character who is clearly male, but appears more feminine than usual. The character should be clearly masculine, but through dress or figure (such as cross-dressing) also appears effeminate. Not to be confused with ‘Futa’ (a distinctly female character with male genitals).

Detail Desc: Any character who appears masculine, but has both male and female genitals. An off-shoot of ‘Herm’, but generally more masculine than feminine. Not to be confused with ‘Cuntboy’ (a masculine character with only female genitals) or ‘Shemale’ (a feminine character with only male genitals).

Short Desc: Any image depicting intercourse between a futa and a male

Tag: Shipping  
Short description: Images depicting romantic relationship.  
Detailed description: Images with implication that a character is in love with another, between any gender, age or race, or even two of the same character. Usually accompanied by lovey-dovey things such as kissing, blushing, hugging, snuggling, nuzzling or sexual acts.  
Example:

Tag: all the way through (nsfw)  
Description: An extreme case of sexual penetration where something inserted goes through the character’s bowels and out the other side.

Tag: axillism (nsfw)  
Description: The act of rubbing one’s penis on another’s armpit.

Tag: Berry Punch, Berryshine, Pinot Noir, OPPP  
Short Description: Magenta earth pony (sometimes unicorn) with berry cutie mark  
Detailed Description: Berry Punch is an earth pony background mare with berries for a cutie mark, who shares her design with Cherry Berry among others. The name is primarily fanon, but has been adopted in the second wave of Enterplay Trading Cards.  
Berryshine is the name given in blind bag wave 3 to a toy identical to Berry Punch, save for being a unicorn, but it has since been used in wave 9 for an earth pony version of the same. In practice, the tag “Berryshine” is used for pictures specifically referencing one or both of the toys, though you could probably use it for pictures showing Berry Punch (the background pony) as a unicorn.  
Pinot Noir is Lauren Faust’s original name for Berry Punch. The tag is only used for pictures specifically referencing this.  
OPPP is short for “Overly Protective Parent Pony,” referencing a moment in Bridle Gossip when she pulls Berry Pinch/Ruby Pinch inside. The name Berry Punch has all but eclipsed this one in popularity, however, and so OPPP is almost never used.

Tag: Lily, Lily Valley  
Short Description: Pink and yellow earth pony with lily cutie mark  
Detailed Description: Lily (fanon name), or Lily Valley (canon name, from blind bag wave 7) is an earth pony background mare with three white lily flowers for a cutie mark, who shares her design with Cloud Kicker and Flora/Merry May among others. The name “Lily Valley” is additionally used in blind bag wave 9 for what appears to be a pegasus version of her, though she has never appeared in the show as a pegasus. Both tags may safely be used in all cases.

Tag: shake weight  
Description: A dumbbell that oscillates, which supposedly improves its effectiveness. Gained popularity due to the fact that using it involves pumping a phallic object.

(append to the above: For images containing the flower, not the pony, the tag “lily (flower)” may be used instead.)
 
Tag: Roseluck  
Short Description: Beige and red earth pony with rose cutie mark  
Detailed Description: Roseluck is an earth pony background mare with a red rose for a cutie mark, who shares her design with Lyra Heartstrings and Sparkler/Amethyst Star among others. She is named “Roseluck” in blind bag waves 1 and 6, and “Rose” in the episode A Friend In Deed, but for disambiguation purposes this should be taken as a nickname and only Roseluck should be used for tagging her.
 
Tag: rose (flower)  
Short Description: A kind of flower  
Detailed Description: Since the tag “rose” is potentially ambiguous, “rose (flower)” should be used for all images containing roses that are flowers.
 
Tag: Rose  
Short Description: Anything named Rose besides flowers and Roseluck  
Detailed Description: Rose is a tag with a great deal of potential ambiguity. If you wish to tag the background pony with a beige coat and a red mane, use “Roseluck” instead. If you wish to tag the literal flower, use “rose (flower)” instead. Only use “Rose” if you wish to tag a character from another series (e.g. Dr. Who, Homestuck, Filly Funtasia) who herself happens to be named Rose.
 
Tag: roses  
Short Description: Multiple rose flowers  
Detailed Description: Used for images containing more than one rose flower. Should probably just be merged with “rose (flower)”.
 
Tag: Desert Rose  
Short Description: G3 earth pony with a rose cutie mark  
Detailed Description: Desert Rose is a G3 character who strongly resembles the G4 background pony Roseluck. While Desert Rose was admittedly an early fanon name for Roseluck, for clarity the Desert Rose tag should only be used for pictures specifically containing or otherwise referencing the G3 character.
 
Tag: Diamond Rose  
Short Description: White and red pegasus pony with diamond cutie mark  
Detailed Description: Diamond Rose is a G4 pegasus pony who originated in the toyline as both a brushable playful pony and as a blind bag, and who later appeared in some issues of the IDW comics. She has no relation to Roseluck, Desert Rose, or any other characters with “Rose” in their names. Images containing Diamond Rose should be tagged “HasbrOC” if they seem to be about her as a toy character, but the tag is traditionally omitted when referring to her IDW appearances.
 
Tag: Rosedust, Queen Rosedust  
Short Description: The queen of the G1 flutter ponies  
Detailed Description: Rosedust is the queen of the flutter pony race from G1. Any picture tagged “Rosedust” should additionally be tagged “Queen Rosedust,” and vice versa, unless it’s of an OC or something that happens to share her name. Has absolutely no relation to Roseluck, Desert Rose, Diamond Rose, or any other character ever with “Rose” anywhere in their name.

Tag: good clean married sex (nsfw)  
Description: Sexual acts (explicit, implied, or imminent) between characters who are canonically married.

Detail Desc: An artist most often found on the Pixiv website, he’s known for his clop art involving extremely detailed but exaggerated anatomy, such as over-sized crotch-boobs, vaginas, and muscle detail. Many of his pictures are considered ‘anatomically correct’, often to the point of being ‘too correct’.

He can be found on the DeviantArt and FurAffinity sites under the name ‘lamiaaaa’ and on Inkbunny as simply ‘Lamia’.

The filly version of Princess Luna, usually (but not always) portrayed with her season 1 hairstyle. Her counterpart is cewestia.  
The tag for Luna as a young adult with season 1 hair is s1 luna.

is The counterpart of woona. Princess Celestia as a filly, usually with slightly shorter pink instead of long and rainbow-colored mane.  
s1 luna has no counterpart; pictures of young adult Celestia with a pink make should be tagged princess celestia, younger.
