Currently, “octavia” implies “octavia melody”, but I’m not really sure why it shouldn’t just be aliased to it.

I don’t know what the difference between the “butt” and “ass” tags is, but the results for “ass, butt”, “butt, NOT ass”, and “ass, NOT butt” are all subsets of “butt || ass”.
 
The stupid fandom joke “plot” is at the bottom of this, I’m sure.

Yeah, something like “plot” is for ponies while “ass” and “butt” for their humanized form.  
This should be sorted out… somehow…

Ass is for humans and anthros. Plot is for ponies. It would help reduce confusion if the tag definition appeared when searching for the tag.

Not really. They’re used pretty much interchangeably. Plot is a fandom thing, and not applied consistently even among the people that use it.
 
Also, there are varying levels of anthropomorphism. Having to decide on a cutoff point for what to tag a butt isn’t going to help.

Tags are misused because their meanings are misunderstood - a problem I thought the tag definitions thread was meant to fix but little came of that.
 
It’s simple. Two legs = ass. Four legs = plot.

I’ve honestly never heard of plot being restricted to ponies. I’ve seen it applied just as much to humanized characters.
 
It’s a term that the fandom uses, regardless of species.

That is how I use the tag and it is my understanding that that is its accepted usage. If people are using plot and ass interchangeably they’re doing it wrong by making one tag superfluous.
 
I’d say centaurs would get the plot tag because their lower half is equine.

So would it be OK to un-alias “snowflake” now?
 
Since Bulk Biceps has a canon name now, the old fan nick (Roid Rage) is also rapidly falling out of use. “Snowflake” was only ever used out of respect for one cosplayer, but I doubt he’d object to the new show name.
 
I do not want us to keep dragging names with us long after they have fallen out of use.

Remember, it didn’t start as tagging nomenclature, and post of the people using the term probably don’t care about tags.

I tried six months ago to avoid the confusion we see here. Had someone simply copypasted the definitions in the Tag dictionary thread to the search results pages, it could have raised awareness of the proper use of tags.

Which, again, raises the question of whether the term was ever so limited. While you use the term like that, it doesn’t mean that other people do, and I’ve never heard of the divide anywhere, before you mentioned it.
 
Given that this site is supposed to be at least somewhat user friendly to newcomers, I’d go with the actual term over a fandom in joke, where possible. At least for a term referring to anatomy.
 
If someone’s just been watching the show or reading the comics, the “I watch it for the plot” joke is going to go right over their head.

If ass and plot are regularly used interchangeably as you say, then those tags should either be aliased or a distinction in tagging made between pony and humanoid butts. For easy searching I am in favor of a distinction.

The problem is, you aren’t making it easier for newcomers. Why would newcomers know about your plot/ass split?
 
You also aren’t making it easier for people who want pony and human posteriors, especially since they probably don’t know about the split, either.
 
I’d go with having them aliased. Technically, butt was already aliased into plot… Which still seems like it should have been the other way around.
