Site Rules Rewrite

@Joey
I think Rule #3 needs to be a little more clear. Here’s my rewrite:

#3 Do not upload unrelated content
This site is intended for images regarding My Little Pony and its surrounding community. Images that are completely unrelated to My Little Pony may be removed.
→ “My Little Pony-related” is defined here as everything released under the My Little Pony brand; from the “My Pretty Pony” prototypes and the 1980s cartoons and toylines (commonly called G1) to the current My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic cartoon, expanded universe and merchandise; and everything in between.
→ Images should always have a clear association to My Little Pony. Images that are not directly related to, but share a strong relation with MLP and/or it’s community (such as community-related content), are welcome as well.
→ Images that contain an “obligatory pony” (as in inserting a pony or the mention of a pony into an otherwise unrelated image) does not make that image MLP-related, and such images will be removed from the site.
#3a Regarding memes
The staff’s attitude towards memes (i.e., in-jokes spread across the Internet by a particular fandom or userbase) has been a major point of controversy here on Derpibooru. Therefore, we shall clear up any further confusion:
→ Images that were created using an exploitable meme or an image macro template related to MLP are allowed, provided that they do not function as “obligatory ponies”. However, images created with a template, which is designed to be an image featuring a pony where you “drop-in” an unrelated image, are not allowed. We recognize that memes can be hilarious or thought-provoking if done correctly. We’re not trying to be buzzkills, either. But relation to MLP always takes precedence.

Otherwise, nice job. :3

-> If you are aware of an artist or member using multiple names/aliases to keep content separate (such as clean vs sexual content), or using an alternative name as to not be identified, do not call them out or publicly highlight such a fact.

Whoops.
Mods may need to nuke three of my comments.
And for that matter, this comment may need strategic censoring.

These weren’t done to ‘out’ the NSFW alias of the artist, just me observing it.

I’m confessing/reporting here so as not to spam the report buttons.

Excellent work on the rules! They’re pretty clear I’d say, and in my opinion, should be easy to follow. Your work doesn’t get appreciated enough, moderators.

In this case, it’d be better to self-report because linking urls in thread will only make the not-supposed-to-be-public info more public.

@MorphinBrony
I’m with you on this one. I think stuff that covers the My Little Pony brand should be allowed. I think as long as anything non-MLP:FIM is tagged properly and thus can be filtered (G1, G3, G3.5, Equestria Girls), the rule would be fair.

In the end the last word is always up to the the admins and mods. That’s just how it is.

As for edits: The general idea is if the artist didn’t tell us anything about edits we assume he’s fine with it as long as the general tone of his artwork is not changed.
That means if the artist only draws safe artwork we will assume he is not ok with explicit edits.
If an artist never draws a certain fetish we will assume he will not like edits involving that fetish.

Anyway: I always advise people to just ask the artist before they do and/or upload any edits. It’s always the safest and most respectful way.

Rules page is clear enough to me without changes. Though reports rule selection could have an improvement since every time I make a report, I have to check up on rules to know which rule applies - short descriptions in the selection are insufficiently clear.

Does 1.4 apply to work from artists who have “Do not repost my work on any other website” notices on their DA/Tumblr/FA/InkBunny/etc. pages? I can’t recall any specific examples off the top of my head, but I’ve seen several such notices on the blogs and galleries of artists who have a lot of images uploaded here.

One thing to point out on this subject is that if a Deviantart page is missing the buttons at the top right for reposting to Twitter/Facebook/Tumbler/Pinterest/etc, that means the artist deliberately changed their default settings to disable that feature, so one should probably ask their permission first before uploading any of their work here.

Where 2.8 says “adding tags to images in which they do not pertain to”, the grammatically correct version would be “adding tags to images to which they do not pertain” or “adding tags that do not pertain to those images”.

If 5.0 is including German content laws now then pretty much every shitty oc:aryanne image with a swastika in it needs deleting.

Two existing pictures glued together with 0 effort

Is that going to cover “screencap with unrelated text superimposed on it” as well? Because that’s another one with bajillions of offenders, and only a very small percentage of them are actually clever and/or funny.

-> Tag and source vandalism is prohibited. This includes bulk adding /removing/modifying tags on a large quantity of images without permission, adding tags to images in which they do not pertain to, and modifying source URLs to point towards invalid, inaccurate, or useless addresses.
-> If an image is not adequately tagged or sourced, please correct them as necessary. Comments complaining about inadequate tagging or sourcing will be considered spam. If you feel that an uploader is posting numerous images without proper tagging or sourcing, submit a report.

This is contradictory. If an image (or any number of images) is missing particular tags that are appropriate, they should be added by the person who notices it. Without bitching about it. The second sub-rule is correct. The first sub-rule is correct except that it should not include adding tags. See the later rule. Everyone should feel free to correct missing tags. It also misses that non-bulk removal of valid tags should also be prohibited.

It should read, “Tag and source vandalism is prohibited. This includes bulk removing/modifying tags on a large quantity of images without permission, adding tags to images in which they do not pertain to, removing or modifying accurate tags from images they do pertain to , and modifying source URLs to point towards invalid, inaccurate, or useless addresses.”

→ Do not upload drawn or computer generated images of characters in a sexualized manner, or in sexualized scenarios, who appear to be under the age of eighteen and who are human or closely resembling a human.

I still think this should be more specific, and it definitely should include all kinds of anthros which resemble a humanoid form in one way or another. Because there are a lot of CMC foalcon pictures which are dangerously close to loli content, and just putting an “older tag” on it should not make it ok, when the characters still doesn’t look mature.
At least make it so, that it has to have a loli tag requirement if it is ~16 year old anthro, or appears to be.
Background Pony #DDB0
rule 0 always seemed too uncertain, such blurry terms like “troll”, “attack”, “unconstructive criticism” give to moderators too big latitude of interpretation

Here’s what you don’t understand:
The rules aren’t meant to restrict moderators. They’re meant to be a guideline for the users so they won’t get in trouble.

@Mad Black
Anthros are and will still be okay. We’re not changing the rules here. We’re only rewriting them.
As long as the site owners don’t say anything else the current way of handling loli content will not change.

We could discuss the tagging, but that’s not a site rules issue. That belongs to tagging guidelines.
Background Pony #DDB0
@patec
but in fact all mods and users follow this guideline why not make it real rules. it’s not hard to get in trouble when you don’t know what’s on mods’ mind
