The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Possibly related to this, twice now over a short period the site logged me out right after logging in. Just now, I logged in, checked my notifications and when I tried to reply to a comment I was suddenly logged out.

Chrome latest version, on incognito mode but that never gave me problems before, no extensions save ad-block.

No Thank You
I am having issues with Chrome. The site often loads very slowly, specifically thumbnails, avatars, and individual posts. Sometimes Chrome will load the site fine if the page was recently loaded, but pages and posts I had not accessed recently or ever tend to take a long time.

Everything else seems fine. Uploading, editing, text. Just thumbnails and the pics themselves.

I think it’s Chrome because the site loads fine in IE when I access the same page on both browsers simultaneously. Chrome seems to work fine with any other image site I try to access.

I run Version 41.0.2272.101 m, which Chrome says in up to date. I am rolling without any extensions with no improvement.

Same here. Not extraordinarily slow but still noticeable. Strange because when I came to the site previously everything loaded smoothly.

I suspect this changed the API response format from a list of images to an object containing the list of images:

[...] -> {"images":[...]}

It’d be cool if the response format stuck to one format or the other.

Restore 4.0 behavior for using serialize attributes with JSON as coder.
With 4.1.x, serialize started returning a string when JSON was passed as the second attribute. It will now return a hash as per previous versions.

This affects controller JSON responses and thus the API as it currently exists. “It would be cool” if Web libraries stuck to anything ever.

I notice lately sometime I can’t downvote on some images in the gallery and the button looks darker. If I click to go to that image I can’t downvote, and then click the button from there it works.

Given we’ve been on Rails 4.2.0blazeit for some time (which that upgrade message relates to) that’s not it - 4.2.1 is a minor upgrade, with no major serializer changes afaict.

Suddenly changing response format should be considered a bug as it breaks 3rd party code. I would think that rails allows changing how responses are serialized.

I guess it is easy for me to change my code. I just hope others using the API don’t spend too much time figuring out why their stuff doesn’t work.

Yeah, we do consider backwards compatibility breakages as a bug unless we have a really good reason to break stuff, in which case we do try and give a heads-up.

The old behaviour is back now. Shout if you spot any places where it isn’t!

Holy crap, were they serious?!
How is it possible that they couldn’t imagine the utter mess that a thing like that could have caused?

@BigMax
If Clover’s correct, this would be part of an earlier minor version upgrade rather than a patch release, which is more understandable, especially for Rails.

@Taivastiuku
I had to go to an office job, so I had no time to investigate reverting the behavior beyond that. It’s a common practice for APIs to set a result row Array as an Object’s property value, however, likely because it makes incorporating metadata easier. I do not maintain the API.

@mercurypony
Report back if you catch it showing this behavior on an image that is not spoilered.
