Except when it’s shouting fire in a movie theater, or not making death threats, or deleting kiddie porn...or hate speech. Some things need to be shut down. I think nazis and racists take advantage of free speech absolutists because The idea of the right to free speech allows them and others to do and say horrible things, accumulate power, and set up bases in fandoms and communities right up until they take over with their own ideas. The reality of the situation requires greater critical thinking than a blanket statement. It’s up to us to build the fandom we want.
