I am saddened but I also understand completely. I uploaded infrequently as I have seen so many abuse the system and upload dozens of ai images at once.
I felt like I built a little bit of a following though and I’ll miss it. I’m glad my images are now on tantabus but I feel like now it won’t be the same.
I will still remain on this site and I do plan on improving my real art. Then I’ll come back and continue posting on this site.

As someone who puts a lot of time and effort into AI work, I think this update is very fair.
Nothing but respect to the admin team managing all of this.
About one of the points in the initial post; I thought it said the AI composition tag would be hidden in the trending query, but 3502851(NSFW) still shows up in the search results and on the trending tab on the front page.

If it does wither, that just means there isn’t really an audience for ai. But given the number of upvotes on some ai images, I don’t expect it to wither.

This is a slap in the face to ai artist who provide free content to this site and have been receiving good reception lately. As others have mentioned, there are some middle ground quality images that don’t necessarily make the “ai composition” cut, but still get ~300 favs and good comments. I do think a push for higher standards in gens is good, but the new standards are a bit much and biased, and do not reflect the actual active community response at all. Why the need for an entire different website when ai content could be default filtered or you can type -ai content. With this change ai artist on tantebus will not be able to directly compare their feedback to ai and art posted on derpi. This was a decent tool to guage how an image stood up to others, but that has been removed.

I’d say that if the main goal of the site is to help artists showcase their art, then the ruling against AI is perfectly fine.
I’d say that while one could argue for AI made things to be “AI art”, I believe that there is no such thing as an “AI artist”. Giving a list of instructions makes not art, just like when one commissions an illustration, the artist is the one using the description and doing the image and not the commissioner.
At most, giving instructions to an AI is just as if you were forcing the model into creating “a request” for the user.

Very pleased with this. It’s about time one of the sites I frequent stand up for actual real artists. It’s been very annoying the past year seeing something that catches me attention but then saying “Oh, nevermind, it’s ai.” I can’t goon to AI slop
While I will agree, seeing 10+ images of the same thing with tiny changes is annoying, at least an actual human made them. There definitely is an argument to be made about quality control with a lot of things but that’s for another day. For now I thank the mod team for this decision.

Rather than fully deleting ai generated images from here, would it be possible to put them in a kind of “unlisted” or “archived” state where they mostly behave as if they’ve been deleted, but are still visible when accessed via a direct link (i.e. the source URL in Tantabus)?
Background Pony #A710
Oh, that would be fantastic! That would also save the comments attached to said images! It would still be shutting the gate on letting in new visual-AI works - which, however idealistic it may sound, should hopefully put an end to the influx of problems from said material - but wouldn’t debunk the functioning links to them that may be scattered around. (Or eviscerate any relevant Favorites lists / galleries.)

I second this, considering that the AI works currently still online are the ones deemed to be of quality and weren’t the ones causing the mods headaches. If the way the site is setup doesn’t allow for this, then it’s understandable, but otherwise if there is a way to archive them “out of sight” then that would be a nice solution that doesn’t complete delete everything.

Just because the image is here doesn’t mean it has been “approved” or that it’s not a continuing or ongoing headache. One of the biggest headaches is “but what about this one” style questions in support, or people continuing to report images that have been previously reported for anything from Rule #1 to Rule #5.
And they are already “out of sight”. People had to opt in to see them, but that certainly didn’t reduce the amount of moderation effort they and the comments on them caused.
And I’m not sure that it would reduce our workload if there were a whole new class of “hosted only for the purposes of hotlinking” that represent images that can’t be uploaded under the new rules - it would be like grandfathering them, and would give us a set of legacy images that still have to be moderated if they are reported for style emulation or showing underage explicit content, and will still be referenced by people complaining about their upload having been deleted.
Plus any reports against the comments on them. After they’re deleted, we don’t have to deal with “that person said a bad thing” reports on comments in them any more. But if they’re still here, they’re still here.

I apologize in advance if this question has already been asked.
What if someone put AI tags on normal art to remove unwanted works or just for fun? After all, at the beginning it was said that works tagged with AI tags would be deleted, and therefore this opens up the possibility of sabotage of works.
How will you avoid such actions?

So, some were asking about possible vote-migration solution, here is one. Tested solely on desktop chrome.
Please read carefully:
  1. Install Tampermonkey.
1.1. You might need to enable developer mode in your browser. Refer to Tampermonkey manual for that. Please be cautious, as while it gives you some automation tools, these actions may result in your data being at risk, and consider disabling everything back after you’ve done.
  2. Go through this link. This will install a script to perform vote transfer.
  3. Login on both derpi and tantabus with wanted accounts.
  4. Get api key of your account from derpi. See API keys section and remember to not share this with anyone (including me).
  5. Do the same on tantabus.
  6. Open this url: https://tantabus.ai/pages/api?migrate-votes . If Tampermonkey and script installations were done correctly, you will see up to 5 input fields and Process button instead of usual field of text.
  7. Paste gathered earlier API keys in these input fields. Third field is needed, if wish to don’t copy something (downvotes won’t be copied anyway), e.q. typing upvotes, hidden will only transfer favorites. You may also specify id area to work with (in case if script stopped working at the middle of porting).
  8. When you click Process, another tantabus window should open. Do NOT close it until migration is done (toppest message after the button will be “Done.”) and preferably do not interact with it. If you can’t see the window, try disabling ad blocker.
  9. Once you’ve started the process, avoid ANY interactions with images on both sites to reduce chances of messing up. Do NOT close the page while the script is running.

Do NOT start the second instance of script, it won’t speed up the process!

  1. You will be asked to allow making request to derpibooru. Double check the domain and allow it. May be a reason to allow it forever, since otherwise you’ll be flooded with popups.
  2. Process may take several hours if you have thousands of votes or a very slow internet connection. Refer to logs printed after the button (and opened window), if the process is still going.
11.1. Messages like X is interacted that way already is likely caused by either you already voting on the image or matching different kind of votes and usually fine.
11.2. !!! Several pics (X) matched the same DERPIID:TANTABUSID! TANTABUSID2... means that script could not automatically determine exact image, you can vote by youself if you want to.
11.3. Nothing may go on visually for several seconds, it’s fine. There is a reason to panic only if nothing is going on for a minute.

This is expected, along with other kinds of tag vandalism like people removing ‘ai generated’ from images that they like, and we are watching for people doing this. As we find people doing it, we revert their tag changes, lock the tags on the affected images if necessary, and ask them to stop. If they won’t stop we ban them.
