Ah, the smell of deploying freshly developed things that nobody even knew we were working on: THEMES! Well, actually at the moment there are just two, namely the Default you’ve become so used to, and a dark(er) theme with a dark gray background.
The obvious question is of course whether there will be more themes, and if so, what kind of themes exactly.
Personally, I’d rather keep themes functional than making a bazillion themes for all the ponies, and pets, and twilight scepter, and, well, you can see where I’m going: if you do one, people will demand that their fav pony gets one too, and in the end it becomes A) development hell and B) keeps us from making actually interesting things*.
So, what sort of themes would be useful to have, then? Well, the current dark theme is totally based on the GTK theme I’ve been using for a few years now, though I can see people wanting one with an even darker background (ie, completely black). Or maybe a high-contrast theme.

- = One thing I want to look into being what I’m currently calling “theme extensions”. They’re little CSS tweaks independent of the theme, which can be enabled or disabled independently. For example, slightly smaller margins throughout the site, or a checkerboard background behind images. Simple things that not everyone wants, but at the same time I think enough people would like to have without having to mess with any actual code.

- Contrast between commented color on thumbs(fixed 2014-08-07)
- Contrast on Faved/Upvoted things(fixed 2014-08-07)
- Links in site notices(fixed 2014-08-07)
- Input box for fancy tags is the wrong text color(fixed 2014-08-07)
- Change live preview behaviour to switch on change of selection, not on mouseover(fixed 2014-08-07)
- Slightly improve contrast on especially purple and green tags.(fixed 2014-08-07)
- Resize handle for text areas might need to be styled -> This does not seem possible at the moment through CSS
