I believe the badge is for participating in Derpibooru’s April Fools prank of when the site had a different design change, which was circa mid-to-late-1990s and early-2000s. And by leaving one or more comments here during the prank will grant you the badge.

Is there any reason I got a badge for not participating in the event? Call me old fashioned if you must but that strikes me as a bit weird.

You posted in the thread within the assigned time frame, which is the criterion.  
Therefore, you were there for the event by definition.  
By way of analogy, this is you showing up to a party just to say you wouldn’t show up to the party, which is an oxymoron. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well in the analogy, it’s more like I was already at the venue before the party started.  
And once it started I said “fuck this shit, I’m out” and left

Hope there’s an option to re-enable the theme added.
