You just assume they’re straight, on the basis of unconfirmed implications of their obvious affection for each other. Much like how Lyra and Bonbon seem quite obviously affectionate for each other now…

   Do I think Shining Armor and Cadance are straight and go at it like mink when they’re alone? Of course. Has it ever been proven on the show? Of course not. Why do we assume it? Because it has been repeatedly hinted at, in G-rated ways.
    
   Why should the standard be any different for a lesbian couple? If a lesbian relationship has been playfully hinted at, it should be assumed, unless and until stronger evidence comes along to indicate otherwise. Or you should be even-handed and not make the assumption for straight couples. Though that would be stupid, because most couples are straight. But when you see a couple who’s not straight, the fact that most couples are straight has no relevance.
    
   We’ve seen Lyra and Bon Bon canonically living together (with no division of the house like with Vinyl and Octavia), hugging, rubbing cheeks, being delighted to be joined at the pelvises!, and so on. (Realize, being joined together at crotch level is both of their happiest dreams!) Yes, all it would take is one cartoon where Big MacIntosh marries Bon Bon to undo all of that and change the preponderance of the evidence to at least Bon Bon being straight. But as of yet, that hasn’t happened, has it.
