If the refrain is “just filter Nazis if you hate seeing Nazis so much,” then what’s the solution for people who have Nazi profile pictures? Because I’m seeing Aryanne’s face in every other comment section.

Adblock or ublock have ways to block individual images or page elements.
 
If you think someone’s avatar is rule breaking, you can report them.

Speaking of which, there is a large flood of uploads of the controversial OC this morning oddly.

Depends what it is. If its an explicit image or a straight up swastika, you could probably report it. If its just a headshot of aryanne, no swastika cutie mark, you may need to just get over it at that point. Honestly, its just a pfp. Really no big deal.

There was a soft DNP on the images at the request of the publishers. That expired so the pack is fair game for uploaders. As a booru, we’re happy to receive images that are apropos the site as quickly as possible. That doesn’t always work out for users who see the front page ‘spammed’ with one theme, but we are using computers for this so it does happen.

It is when I’m seeing it at least once per visit to this site. I don’t know if it’s my bad luck or their frequent commenting, but it’s reached a point where if I don’t want Nazi horse thrown in my face, I have to stop looking at comments.

If there is a swastika visible in the avatar, then that violates our Rule #7 - if you see any like that please report it. And if someone has a literal drawing or picture of literal Hitler, that would also violate Rule #7. So if you see any avatars like that please report the user. If you hit the limit of reports you can send me a list of the users with Swastikas or Literal Hitler as their avatar in a PM.
 
If it’s just a headshot of the OC:Aryanne, that does not as it stands break our rules, but there is a problem with it in that OC:Aryanne should be tagged ‘nazi’, and ‘nazi’ is hidden by default on this site so a crop of an image that is not normally permitted under the default filter could be Rule #7 - it depends on the specifics of the image and that gets twisty fast. But there are a lot of images of OC:Aryanne that are not tagged ‘nazi’ and we are reviewing that so hopefully it will be less twisty in the near future.

This brings me back to the early days of the fandom, when people called someone using a pony avatar “shoving ponies down my throat”
 
Or more recently, when people call trans flag PFPs “shoving politics down my throat”

I’m not able to open more reports - I’m at the max. If you feel that their avatar should be reviewed, please report the user and then the team can review it.

Rule #7’s text has been a bit out of line from how we enforce it for quite a while; I will try to get it updated soon to better reflect what we actually do. Mainly, the currrent text is all concerned about keeping things Safe-rated, but we enforce more based on what Default hides.

Well, we don’t treat crops of things the same as those things, for tagging, and for filtering, and I don’t see that avatars would be any different. This has come up before with avatars that are crops of just a face from a porn image, and to my understanding, we don’t care what is going on in the original image, just what the crop shows.
 
As for the avatar that is Aryanne’s face with “This mare is your friend, she fights for freedom”, I don’t think it’s Rule 7. However, it’s a bit “on the nose” with the text and recent drama, so there’s Rule 0 (avatar as bait) to consider.

Define “rule breaking”

I find this as ridiculous as the people that complain about anime or furry profile pictures on social media, there is nothing wrong with having the face of a pony as your profile picture in a pony website

That in and of itself is true, but some avatars are going further, as you are no doubt aware given your current avatar. This thread is about where the limits are.

For example, anything in an avatar that would be hidden by the Default Filter would be rule-breaking. That includes anything that would be rated above “Safe” or anything including something that is hidden by default on the site.

Banning aryanne images from avatars would add fuel to the censorship arguments, and the people doing it would simply use something else.  
Add an option to hide avatars on client side if you feel you must protect some sensibilities.  
Click the picture to hide it, which would replace it with simple text.

Woah up there, buckaroo - this is nothing new and has always been thus. If your avatar is breaking a site rule, we’re going to ask you to remove it. Avatars can not be filtered, and we have always asked people to replace their avatars if they are above rating or would otherwise not be appropriate on all threads or forums of the site.
