I would like to see a questionnaire about peoples opinions

Regarding the whole ‘situation’ Derpi ended up in, I highly suggest there should be a questionnaire about people’s stance.
 
If this is already planned / mentioned / discussed, then perfect! See this post as a vote for it with some additional explanation why I think it is important.
 
Please hear me out: The way things have turned out to be, I see no possible way to ‘fix’ this situation any more. So the questionnaire is NOT that. Not a fix. It’s only a mitigation. Derpi will lose users over this situation. From different interest groups. And different ideologies. The damage is already done. The best thing Derpibooru staff can do (in my personal opinion) is to finally rid themselves of the sampling bias in their forums, give the users the voice they deserve, and actually ask all of the users of their site about their opinion.  
They clearly mention they want to ‘gather feedback from our entire community’. And the only reliable way to get this, is to add a questionnaire banner to the site. You know, like those announcements, about ‘Pony with care’ and such? Derpi has done it in the past, so why not now, when it’s clearly urgently needed? I would personally even go as far as sending an email to all accounts, but I don’t know if that is legally a viable option.
 
Whatever the result of that questionnaire will turn out to be, it will have better representation of the actual middle of the bell-curve than the vocal part of the community which uses the forums. For example, I almost never used the forums. And I wouldn’t even be here, if my partner wouldn’t have linked me to the currently ongoing discussions. I would not have had my opinion taken into account at all. And also, the forum is full of anonymous posts. People post multiple times. Visual cues play a role in human perception. Etc. Etc. All further tainting the sample.
 
Get rid of it! Go the only sane route, and actually ASK your users. Don’t wait for them to come to you in the forums!
 
Again, I’m sorry if this is already being discussed elsewhere. But this is important enough for me to try and get myself heard as clearly as I can.

You are correct, it’s too late. Irreversible damage has been done. But it can still be at least mitigated.
 
Derpi staff forcing a decision will make people feel ignored. Which is a bad thing.  
Derpi staff continuing to get swayed by toxic discussion culture in the forum will make it impossible to make an INFORMED decision. Which is a bad thing.
 
There is no alternative, than to actually ask the users.

Makes sense. The more active users here seem to lean towards being anarchist douchebags, and yet I’ve met and befriended 100s of users that are really nice people that don’t fit into that at all. And we can’t just force that lot to become more active, so this sounds like a solution… Well, I hope. We’re talking about the same people who think that upvoting is too much work and effort.

Instead of just listening to vocal minorities in comments,  
I think the site’s staff needs to implement a poll for all who has an account older than a week or two (to avoid any manipulation of results by fake accounts).
 
And that poll would give you a lot better picture, what kind of change the MAJORITY of the community supports, before implementing it.

None of this nonsense would have happened if the staff hasn’t bowed to the Twitter outrage culture mob in the first place, and now in attempting to placate everyone they please no one. Removing politics in any form is basically the only thing they could do at this point considering the grave they dug for themselves.

The inherent flaw in this repeated argument is that it assumes discomfort with Nazi symbolism could not have possibly existed within the fandom, right here. It’s too “othering” to hold much merit.

Where was all the outrage and cries for banning Aryanne before? For all the people screeching about how they can’t coexist with “hate speech”, they didn’t seem to have any problems with it until a week ago.

I never liked it, so at least as far as my involvement is concerned I saw it was an issue and decided to make a choice. I thought about it pretty hard, to be honest. I am not normally for censorship. But removing that symbolism strikes me as a compromise for the greater good.
 
I’ve been pretty diplomatic about it, but that doesn’t seem to matter to most people.

Why doesn’t derpi just create a filter for controversial/political satire/mouthpiece art? There, no censorship, people can avoid shit that makes them uncomfortable, and everyone will (hopefully) be happy.

I see where you’re coming from.  
I never liked Aryanne that much myself TBH, because she appeared to me as one of those emanations of the 4chan culture that blurs the line between irony and sincerity in their support of despicable ideologies. However, as she seemed to be tolerated so far, I kinda washed my hands off it and let those who liked her be.  
Then this whole thing blew up, and I’m sorry to say but while I believe in free speech, I also believe that absolute freedom of speech is absolutely unsustainable and there are limits that need to be set on what’s acceptable or not. The exact delineation of those limits might be tricky and there will be people complaining either way, but if a compromise isn’t reached, we might as well shut the whole site down.

While on paper this is absolutely the best solution by miles, in practice this is completely infeasible. How do you prevent vote manipulation? The “classic” way is to require signing in to some draconian website that collects your phone number and SSN and mother’s maiden name, such as google or facebook, under the assumption that most people won’t go through the trouble of making multiple accounts, and the few that do will probably be limited to a few dozen rather than a few hundred due to the effort involved (which should ideally not matter if there are at least several thousand responses total). However, this would not be acceptable here, because it would risk excluding parts of the userbase that don’t have an account on whatever external service is chosen, and since the whole point is to have those accounts as difficult to create as possible, it would not be realistic to expect them to make one just for the poll. If the website’s own forums are “not including enough users”, how could a poll on a third party website ever hope to instill any sort of trust or mandate whatsoever?
 
So you fall back to trying to hold a fair poll on derpibooru. Derpibooru is not draconian and does not require a phone number or other garbage to sign in - which is a very, very good thing in normal circumstances, but it also makes it impossible to hold fair polls. Quick surveys, sure. But if the poll is gonna have any kind of significant weight in determining the future of the site, it’s absolutely guaranteed someone will do everything in their power to make sure the result is in their favour. It’s not that hard to get a few hundred proxies and repeatedly reset the fingerprint. Requiring login is not a solution either, as again it’s trivial to sign up. There will be people who will vote hundreds of times.
 
I guess you could limit voting to accounts older than some cutoff (e.g. a month or two), to prevent creation of new accounts for vote stuffing. But again, plenty of people use derpibooru without an account. I have been browsing derpi for years, and I don’t have an account. Again, you don’t even need an account to post on the forums, but the forums are still considered to not represent the userbase accurately. If you just cut out anyone who’s been using the site but hasn’t registered an account, again, the poll will have shaky mandate and any decision based on it will be immediately attacked from that angle.
