I Have Fewer Metadata Updates Than Before

Yesterday I thought that the number of my metadata updates was 1,005, maybe 1 or 3 more than that.  
But now the number of metadata updates is only 836 now. Is this a glitch?

I have ran some code that re-counted metadata updates. It counted grouping per-image and per-minute. So if you made more than 1 metadata update on the same image within the same minute - it would count at 1 metadata update.

Also I’m curious. What was the reason for this reform?

I wanted to fix counters on all user profiles that have gotten incorrect for one reason or another over half a decade.
