Forum signatures

I was wondering if it was possible to add Signatures to the users here if it hasn’t been put in already.
 
It feels kind of odd to be in a forum without it.

Imma go ahead and vote “no”. Not speaking for the rest of the team or what decisions might be made in the end.
 
Signatures almost always end up being bloat, adding 50%+ to a page’s vertical width,, and the funny/clever ones stop being so after the 3rd time you see them.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to a forum for the express purpose of finding something out and had to wade through 7 pages of photoshopped anime signatures.

…what if you limited the characters, like on twitter?

What I suppose I’m really trying to say is: The whole point of a “signature” is to give a sense of closure and identity, but that can easily get diluted if you don’t keep a tight enough leash on it. If the character limit were lower than what’s necessary for an imbed, not only would images be completely written out of the equation, but the text would only occupy one line and people would have to carefully consider how to make the most of the last few characters people will see in their posts. well, standard forum sigs have always either been 256 or 512, from what I’ve seen in my experience. Just long enough for slightly overlong famous person quotes, or large enough to hold the html of one or two pics. It’s amazing what a difference an extra 116 characters makes.
