Quit falling back on “watch the show lol.” We can not chill. To chill would be to lose content on this site, no mater how deplorable it is. That just shouldn’t be happening… It’s like purging the laws of the Old Testament. Are they inconvenient? Yes. But it’s there to show how far Christians and their relationship with God has changed since the last sacrifice. And this art is there to show the roots of this fandom. To show change from then.

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I did, in fact, take the time to read through each and every one of the papers you provided.
 
In summary:  
From the first two think-tank papers, I found that there was still no empirical evidence for any sort of ‘alt-right pipeline’. It is still just a hypothesis proposed by the think-tanks and they themselves admit it needs to be researched more. Some of the audience polls were interesting, however.
 
The Reddit paper was interesting and I agree with its consensus. Reddit fosters an echo-chamber mentality.
 
The sociological papers on racism I found interesting, but I also found it strange that the author sometimes makes use of the same rhetoric styles he is openly criticizing. I would go into more depth, but I didn’t really see anything that applied directly to our current situation.
 
The papers on Disparagement Humour theory were by far the most fascinating, and somewhat horrifying. It is from these that I can begin to understand your perspective somewhat, however it is certainly an area of psychology that needs more study replication. Especially considering there have been some null results in the area, the research comes from only a very small group of researchers, and because it has the potential to be used to justify some terrifying human rights violations if used improperly. Nor is there any research on ‘mutually’ disparaging humor, where everyone involved is disparaged equally. Also, there have been some recent developments that have found that forcing people to suppress prejudice may actually lead to higher levels of prejudice in a rebound effect and that disparagement humor can be used to foster a released of this prejudice.
 
My view hasn’t changed, I still firmly believe that the potential dangers from censorship far outweigh the potential dangers of not having censorship, but I can better understand your position. Thank you for the enlightening reads.

I just want to chime in to say I know this must not be an easy time behind the scenes on Derpi right now. Having this much of a microscope on your every word and every action is exhausting. People like myself who don’t think nazi apologists, far right extremists, racists or bigots have a space in the fandom are extremely appreciative of everything you have to put up with while you push the community towards being a better place.

Cute meme but it’s not an argument, or a defense. There ARE right wing extremists in the fandom. There ARE racists in the fandom. Claiming that I accuse everyone I disagree with of being a nazi is the act of a person without anything substantive to say. In fact, I don’t think I’ve accused ANYONE in this thread who’s disagreed with me, of being a nazi.

Yes you’re right. Good thing we have over 50 years of education and research into analyzing that very subject. And if you want to debate that subject, there’s plenty of schools and universities with philosophy, psychology and history courses that revolve around the very topic of prejudice and oppression.
 
You know what Derpi is? An art archival site. It’s not a platform for debating the ethics of if actually no we should tolerate racists, or not. And the staff had decided that, actually, no they would prefer not to tolerate platforming a bunch of right wing extremists, racists or bigots.

This fandom has a left wing extremist problem encroaching upon our free speech.  
If we’re not careful, we’ll be sent to virtual gulags or executed (banned).  
Something must be done about these left wing extremists, they have a long history of violence, have murdered a hundred million people in the past and are instigating riots right now. For example, CHAZ in Seattle.

Well, perhaps we think that the fact that we could debate ethics, civilly, through art or discussion, is what made Derpi so great in the first place?  
And perhaps actually being able to have these debates, in turn, helped de-radicalize people who would otherwise oppress their prejudice and lash out even stronger on other sites?
 
Both sides do honestly wish there were fewer racists and extremists in this world.  
What we disagree on is how to best accomplish that goal, and what role Derpibooru may play in accomplishing that goal.

Except you can’t. That’s the very problem in the first place. Nazi ponies bring nazi apologists and holocaust deniers in the comments, racist pictures bring racists in the comments. These people aren’t just contained to their threads and they’re CERTAINLY not “debating ethics, civilly, through art and discussion”. They’re making jokes about jews and trans people. That’s not “debate”. These pictures don’t start debate, they’re just lighting rods for bigotry and racism.
