Downvoting is being replaced by Hiding

I don’t think they’re becoming that. They’ve dealt with then too. They’re just sick of people abusing the system and starting bullshit. They want to make the site accessible for everyone.

This is stupid. I have filtered out images with more downvotes than upvotes, and now that doesn’t work. By seeking to protect the feelings of artists, you’re just annoying some users of your site by making the site cumbersome for them. If an artist feels bad that they’re being downvoted en masse, that’s on them to fix.
 
If I saw a movie that I hated, I’d rate it poorly on IMDB and maybe review it. If the makers want to take a look at the ratings, fine. If not, also fine. It isn’t an attack on the maker of the movie, it’s a word of warning to others to go elsewhere. Same thing for images.

I don’t know on how filters can be abused, they’re more personalized. Up votes are moderated, but in terms of abuse, it’s not like downvoting where most of the time many people up vote rather than one person up voting numerous times. And commenting is still. An open feature, but they also have forums here for stuff that shouldn’t be in comments. And may people seem to follow that rule more because they aren’t be censored, they can still speak their opinons. Plus the closest they can do to comments in the sense is locking them down.

Then they could make a timer - 30/60/etc seconds between downvotes, or have it such that an account can only downvote a certain number of things, or IP ban people who do that. There are other solutions besides “remove downvotes”.

I have to completely disagree. Its basically limiting the speech of the people on the site. The reality of speech is that there will ALWAYS be people who will abuse it at every given turn. Its just how the internet works sadly. You have a hard time filtering the assholes. But the answer is never limiting what the more legitimate guys can say.
 
And it is going to be an especially large trigger these days. So this is just being unwise. There has to be another option, like having a meh meter or something.
 
Also… isn’t it a little back handed to link Arifproject’s character in a blog about getting rid of downvotes? I think it made him rather upset. It probably left the wrong impression on his part. Downote is still prsent in the hide function, yeah, but i did not know that until recently and was upset.

The upvote button, which is no more informative or immune to abuse than the downvote one, is not being considered for removal. This strikes me as a double standard in which positive opinions are being treated as inherently more valuable than negative ones. Also, the removal of the downvote button eliminates the ability to read community opinion in a more detailed way without scrolling through 30 pages of comments, as images that are widely disliked but also widely appreciated will now appear the same at first glance as images that are simply popular.
 
I am beginning to agree with the sentiment that Derpibooru’s moderation is hard to reason with and seeks to stifle negative opinions, though I myself have never been the target of more than one or two warnings from them.

I honestly never down voted anything because I have my custom filter on at all times.

The timer solution doesn’t quite solve the problem, but it isn’t a bad one either. The limit sounds good, but a number of how many can be put up to debate.
 
And they can ban people for that, but usually it’s limited time. It takes a lot of effort to get moonbanned.

Removing downvoting doesn’t turn the site into a hugbox or remove your ability of showing disapproval. It just means you can’t quickbutton your way to doing it anymore.
 
You really want to say you don’t like an image. Tell them now. Want to tell them their image is bad. Leave a comment. Can’t be bothered to do that then just hide the image and move on with your life. Maybe you’ll actually help them be better if you tell them what’s wrong with the image so that they can improve. If they don’t want to listen then that’s on them.

Make a comment that also doesn’t include directly insulting someone by just saying it’s trash/they’re retarded/“I hope everyone who likes this shit dies”/etc.  
[I’m not saying you do this. I’m speaking about the people who DO make those comments.]

Why should users be allowed a quickly accessible button to show approval with no explanation, but not the opposite?

Votes don’t mean anything anyway, the value of artwork on this website is measured in how sexualy explicit the artwork is

Personally I’m of the opinion that people should be allowed to keep tags shown if they so desire, as their dislikes/downvotes would be a more accurate representation of how the community overall feels about an image. The hide feature is still great of course, as probably most of us will simply choose not to see any more of a thing we know we’ll never like. But it’s a choice and if somebody gets satisfaction out of giving an opinion click that’s a win-win imo. But these things can be argued. Removing half the scoring system has much more one-sided issues that should be dealt with.

When I do art it helps to see when a lot of people dislike it. Now, I don’t even get a number. This is counterproductive for my work, since now I’m only going to get an echo-chamber.
 
It doesn’t even have to affect the score. I just want to see how many people have disliked/hidden my stuff.

Okay scratch that, you REALLY hurt Arif’s feelings. he edited his avatar to have Downvote grayed out and put r.i.p on it.
 
Upvotes, comments, filters, all of it has been abused, as much as downvotes.  
Also you are hurting arif’s feelins cause of his oc that was made because of the system. a bit of a parody
