Like, you might not see their art because it’s been anonymized. Or the takedown might be temporary and they’re reuploading their work with new branding so we just leave everything as it is.
Taking away the badges someone has earned is not a pleasant process, usually for anyone involved. I personally only strip badges if someone asks, or if doing so is otherwise indicated by their circumstances.

Why would it matter enough to make the effort aside from pettiness? How many artists go full pull DNP and then stick around to see it?

Could be wrong, but I think by “not a pleasant process, usually for anyone involved” that includes it being a PITA to do too.

Oh, no - it’s super easy to do the actual removal. The UI even includes an animation of the badge being ripped to shreds in a tree chipper, and candy is dispensed for everyone on the team.

All kidding aside, deleting them is one click and the “success” message is one of the perks of being on the team. But if you have to readd them later you have to redo all the math, and that can take an hour or more depending on who it was and how many badges they might qualify for.
The unpleasant part is talking to the artist about it, and if they later re-upload an image, then you have to remember to manually readd the badge.

Derpi now hides most of the badges behind a dropdown, because Badumsquish got so many badges it broke the site’s layout.
