The two badges should have some kind of thematic link, so Owlo-Wowlo as Helper needs something at least tangentially related for Participant; maybe a Wonderbolts logo with a paintbrush instead of a lightning bolt? A Hippogriff form Princess Skystar?

The CMC thing was last year’s theme, because >five year anniversary.
 
It’ll probably be a different theme this year.

I almost want to suggest they should be around movie-themed characters, that having been a recent milestone, but It’s too new for a badge no one can filter out. :v

If last year was CMC for 5-ishness, how about something mane six related for this year? The actual mane six, the pillars, the elements of harmony, any of the various background-six types. There’s a lot of sets of six.

Don’t know if anyone else would agree with this, but a group coming together as friends really deserves a fitting representation.

Just my own opinion. I suggested it last time too, but the CMC shield badge was what we got.

I didn’t think the badges appeared at such a low resolution now. (Aside from on the top bar).
 
It was also tested at that resolution after I suggested it last time, and it was still recognisable.
 
Still, just my suggestion. Up to the mods if they use it or not.

Well, the badges are scaled down .SVGs, so they can be just about any (square) size…  
It would be a very OK choice if it’s recognizable in the smallest resolution.

Might need to find one where Rarity and Pinkie’s tails don’t drape out so far though. That’d affect the height of the image.
 

 
I think this may be the one I posted last time. Got a feeling it’d come out better at a low resolution than the other I posted.

Maybe a possibility for the collabortation badge could be something similar as a “brohoof”? Considering that this is precisely collaboration and it would represent union, etc., and it could be easily interpreted from a low resolution.
 
And for the helper badge, maybe could be one of the mane six designs of the episode “Hearts Warming Eve”? Having also in mind that the point of that episode was to represent the cooperation between all the races of Equestria, as a curious fact, the episode was released approximately 6 years ago, and also it’s winter themed.
 
Maybe could be Rarity or Fluttershy representing due of the generosity and kindness~

they display at 32 x 32 on the profile screen, and 16 x 16 above all comments, posts, and uploads. it’s look like this:  

 
granted these are my own personal criteria (and thus shouldn’t be taken as official policy or opinion of the site as a whole), but i feel badges should be clear at 16 x 16 and visible against all colors of both the light and dark theme.

My own opinion, after checking those against both dark and light themes, it doesn’t look too bad.
 
Of course, it’s not up to me to make the final decision.
 
As for the assistance badge, I agree that owlowishious (sp?) is a good option.

I don’t really like the hugging idea tbh.

going by badges, most (if not all of them) consist of one character/object. Having multiple characters as one badge would not be visually clear
