Ask the Mods Important Site Questions (V2)

Was the site moved to a CloudFlare paid plan lately? I noticed that I’m getting routed to servers in Europe instead of the usual (and usually bad) Newark, NJ.

Nothing’s changed on our side, CF may have done some changes of their own, or is suffering congestion that results in rerouting.

The “Please confirm you are not a robot” prompts are getting more and more frequent and aggressive every day.

It wouldn’t be so bad if the system remembered the original request and resumed it afterwards. But clicking that button only redirects you to the front page.

It’s really annoying to do a dozen tag edits on an image and hit Save, only for the whole tag editor to be replaced with “Please confirm you are not a robot” and a button. It does not matter what you do at that point, because your edits have been forgotten and wiped away, you have to reload the page and re-do them.

Are you guys sure this is how they should work?

There are many things that are suboptimal about this system, including the need to tune it occasionally. I retuned it for new average traffic levels. It should give less grief for now.

Thanks, it seems to have worked. Haven’t gotten even a single robot question after the adjustment.

I’d have to toggle the fancy editor off and copy the plain text, every time I edit tags. Too much work. If I edited tags only a few times a day, then I’d do it. But I do so much tag editing I just can’t be bothered.

They also seem quite pointless, as I can just reload the page rather than addressing the prompt (and indeed, it is better to do that, because addressing the prompt takes me to the home page rather than where I was trying to go)

Am I imagining it, or are spam comments actually hidden now? I reported a bunch of spam comments a few hours ago and now they’re… gone. Comment counters still say N comments, but in reality there’s N-1 comments.

Older reported spam comments are still marked by a red “tombstone”.

Oh, that’s our shiny new “begone spamthot” button that not only automagically moonbans the account but also scrubs its About Me, username, user title, profile pic, and all of its comments and posts. So much cleanup with so few clicks. We nuked almost one full thousand spam profiles within the first few hours when that tool went live.

The user interface for it is almost therapeutic to use. There’s a kind of “Click click click click” process that slowly moves from left to right across the screen then starts again back on the left, so instead of contributing to repetitive stress or utter numbness from how braindead you get after 20 minutes of doing the same clicking over and over, this one actually feels … nice … to use.

Well, whoever crafted the tool did a damn good work. (I can’t find it in the changelog, or I’m not looking hard enough.)

You know, this new tool probably explains why I’ve seen a lot less spam lately.

It could be. I really makes working through patterns of profiles so much easier. Like, when one spammer makes 100 profiles.

Elloo, I was wondering how do I do the tagging for the series section? Is it kinda same for the oc tags or a bit different?

Only staff members can change the class of a tag.

Unless they mean they’ve got a series that they want to tag - that would be automagic.

Just make the tag series:name of series where name_of_series is unique. Check to see if it’s already in use before trying to use it by searching for it in the tag search tool.
