Anyone else forced to solve a captcha before using Derpi?

I tried to access the site today but Cloudflare forced me to solve a captcha before I could get in. This happened on my phone and my desktop in both Firefox and Internet Explorer (I’m still on Windows 7). Is anyone else having this issue or is it just me?

It’s temporary, then? I don’t really mind so much now that I know everything’s fine but it gave me a bit of a start earlier when I got the big orange alert sign and the “your PC might be infected with malware” warning. Kind of annoying after I unplugged my router for 20 minutes to change my IP, though. And started a full system scan, but I suppose it was about time to run one anyway.

I don’t think we’re going to change how it works or that it kicks in when needed.
 
But I know that we all hate it too, and wish we could avoid it.

Did the site come under attack recently? Or is this just a preemptive measure?

As you might imagine, this site is pretty much continually under attack by someone.
 
In this case, some circumstances made this more of a problem than normal.
 
Since the only thing people have to gain by it is the attention they might get, or the drama they might stir up, we try to just deal with it.
 
As one of my coworkers here put it; “The world is big. Some people have mental issues.” There really isn’t anything you can do to fix stupid.

good to hear that its not just me who got the captcha. just a few minutes before i was also logged out from ebay and was asked to check if my phone number is still correct. so i first assumed that something could be wrong on my end.

I got the capatcha thing before I got into the site, plus I was logged in.

Will we get a workaround for still being able to access the API?

Oh whew, I thought it was just me. I’ve seen more than one fansite suddenly turn into a ad filled, virus spreading trap because I didn’t follow the community.
 
As for the DDOSing, ugh. I guess the corona stuff was the straw that broke the pony’s back. I really wish the capacha was easier though. I’m bad with the picture based ones.

It wouldn’t be a problem if they weren’t taking pictures of large areas full of people, shrinking them down to 30x30 pixel images and then asking you to identify all the pictures that have a water bottle or whatever in them.

Unpleasant surprise.

It’s not too much of a hurdle to jump through with the Captcha, just a bit of a surprise for a lot of us.

I had the opposite problem. I forgot I set my browser to zoomed in by 150% on Derpi so the Capcha was a series of giant pixels and I’m trying to figure out which brown blurs were trains.

Yes, I have exactly the second problem. Would there be any way to make us still be able to access the API? Maybe by registering in a thread and receiving a private key?

It doesn’t make me do it anymore. Odd.

I’m on dynamic IP, probably that’s why I’m getting this multiple times (about once per day). Btw it would be much better if it was about recognizing ponies, instead of boring things like cars and trains.

I don’t think they actually do more than install/toggle the captcha. That would be a nice, though.

Had to solve that thing 3 times now to get in. I thought it was a phishing attempt at first. Now I’m getting 404 nginx errors when I click on thumbnails. Lovely.
