Had me in the first half, not gonna lie.
A short video essay / documentary on an unreleased Nintendo 64 game.
This is an amazing entry for the genre whose most well known entries have been Sonic.exe, NES Godzilla, Ben Drowned and most recently PETSCOP (arguably the one with the highest production value)
What set this apart from the ones above is:The streamlined storytelling. It’s much shorter than NES godzilla, less involved than Ben Drowned, far less cryptic than Petscop, and much more accessible for the casual viewer due to its format and style. I would probably compare this to MARIO.exe, except much BETTER.
In fact. I would probably put
Catastrophe Crow as an entry point to the underrated (but also very underpopulated) genre of Haunted / Lost / Unreleased Games. By that I don’t mean actual video games whose main feature is breaking the 4th Wall like Stanley’s Parable or ImScared or DokiDoki.
I love it. I love stupid internet mysteries and I respect these artists so much.
