The best part is nabbing the empire’s capitol early, then suddenly getting the “You Win” screen out of nowhere because said empire takes the last nation’s capitol a later on.

Same most of the time. I only start building up an army after I’ve been declared war on.
 
Thankfully the computer AI is weak enough that I still don’t typically lose cities even in light of that.

The one I won today I had to start the war since they wanted to be friends with me and not anger me. They went to war with each other but not me. I started a new one today (wish the game had more naval-focused maps), and 2/3 of the NPCs declared war early on and only stopped once they realized I wasn’t as weak as they assumed.

It’s why I never be best friends with anyone. They always want to sign co-defense pacts…and then declare war on someone, and thus forcing me into their war. I’m just sitting here thinking “Dude, srsly, I’m trade partners with everyone. Stop making them hate me.”

I had an alliance with the second player, and he never went to war no matter how much I hoped he would. In the current game, the two people who went to war against me denounces me, and the third is friendly to everyone, but refuses to make it official. I can’t get an alliance even if I wanted to.

You must respect your enemies.
