I would say the best DnD like game in the series is Skyrim. You have companions.

Because nothing screams DnD like brain dead robo companions who blunder into traps, get hooked on scenery and regurgitate 5 lines of dialogue.
 
Theyre not companions. They’re dress up dolls and punching bags.
 
Nothing screams DnD like 0 attributes, static quests and a world the size of a few football fields.

They’re slightly more useful than other players, though. I rather play Pillars Of Eternity or Neverwinter if I wanted to play a D&D-like game.

What game are you playing, because Skyrim is larger than that (and more fun to explore than Morrowind, Oblivion, and Daggerfall).

The only thing you need to play DnD is a dungeon master and a player, and you can have a damn good time doing it.

The virus threw a wrench in that plan for me. I played every month before it hit. And my point is that if Daggerfall is trying to be like D&D, than it’s going after the worst parts of it.

Also, static quests are great, especially compared to Daggerfall’s RNG-base quests.

RNG is DnD. Its the crux around which the entire game pivots. A quest book is great to start with but you dont get to the meat of the game untill the DM creates his own quest, litters it with monsters and traps and you have to improvise your way out.
 
Skyrim is good. Its nothing like DnD. Daggerfall is. Everyone of its features and mechanics could come straight from a source book and thats what some prefer. Its a preference thing, not about which one is better.

The only thing Daggerfall lacks is an allignment system.
 
I heard thats being removed from future DND editions though. Sigh.

Again, Daggerfall is the worst of D&D with none of it’s charms. I say this as someone who plays quite a bit of D&D.

Youre wrong. I say this as someone plays dnd, owns all the 5th edition books and played every elderscrolls, starting with Morrowind.

I started with 3.5. And again, if you want a good D&D-like game, play Pillars Of Eternity. It has the charm that Daggerfall lacks.

After playing DbD for like 6 months now and really getting into the nitty gritty of it, I am surprised to find myself wondering if there’s a Jimquisition on the way for it.

Been playing a ton of A Hat in Time. Great game.
