Seeing as 6 can take place from a few years after 5 or a dozen centuries, it’s hard to know. I do wonder if they’ll try to top the world eater or go with something less global, maybe more of a local threat.

I get the feeling, and I may be wrong, but I see it happening relatively close after Skyrim.
 
I’m not sure why, but I don’t think we’ll see an Oblivion/Skyrim jump.

Possibly, if only due to Skyrim’s popularity. They could also include characters from Skyrim if they do that, as well as have events referenced or shared.

I bet it’ll involve a second war between the Empire and Dominion.

The Thalmor are clearly gonna be arc villains. They wouldn’t be set up in Skyrim only to be ignored in the next game. 6 will be as close to Skyrim as oblivion was to Morrowind.

See I dont think they’ll be “villains” per se. I bet the choice in 6 will be between the Empire and Dominion.
 
And just like in Skyrim, I am a loyal defender of the Empire….just ignore the fact I killed the Emperor. A jobs a job.

Did they have any plans on what to do after Mehrunes Dagon arrived, or any back-up plan on him being defeated? I can see the Thalmor being just as shortsighted, though their plan is to rule the country.

Why? They were definitively obliterated in Oblivion. The Thalmor have just been set up, still exist and it’s clear they’ve got an evil agenda.

Empire all the way myself. And there’s a good chance that the Emperor was the one that planned his assassination, since people hated him and him giving up the throne would cause suspicion.

The Thalmor are Nazi analogues working on world domination and high elf supremacy. They’re gonna need a big policy change between games if they’re gonna be a joinable faction.
 
Its more likely you’re gonna be another outsider caught between factions working against Thalmor agression.

Their plan did peak at summoning Mehrunes Dagon. But I thought the group that cause a continent-wide catastrophe, killed the emperor, and ended an era would’ve had some lasting presence.

Isn’t this the third time the Thalmor was formed and tried this shit?

I played a proud Nord idealist and patriot who joined the stormcloaks for Skyrim independence who becomes embittered after the civil war and requests to be left out of the history books.
 
Than, during the Alduin questline, discovers that ulfric was responsible for the fall of the imperial city and may have been a Thalmor agent all along, gives into despair and becomes a vampire lord.

Quest text says he was tortured to an inch of his life by the Thalmor and indoctrinated to start the civil war.

In the quest diplomatic immunity, in the Thalmor embassy, you can find an intelligence report on Ulfric Stormcloak that heavily implies the Thalmor implanted the idea of rebelling against the Empire with the intention of weakening them through a civil war.
