The OG Doom Shotgun is good and I mean no disrespect towards it but it’s not in the same tier as the CE Boomstick.

I must admit, I’m kind of glad that the more recent entries in Metroid series give you at least some hint as to where expansion tanks are. Having to meticulously go through an entire checklist one item at a time to find the one you missed is always a frustrating experience.

I would like to say you can’t use your flashlight and gun at the same time. So yeah it’s bullshit like that that people don’t like it as much as the other doom games. Not really the creepy atmosphere.

Wrex is the guy who grew up with a shitty father and wants to make sure they don’t turn out like that.
Also, I’d love it if Blizzard keeps releasing Overwatch “sequels” and drops the single player support faster each time, so when they get to Overwatch 42 they reveal the new game by announcing they are cutting off the single-player support.

I feel like how little people speedrun D3 compare to every other Doom game (other than terrible ports) is telling of D3’s movement and gameplay.

It’s a different game from the first 2, they tried to better capture the series original vision, focusing on the horror and doing away with the goofy aliens and being about actual demons a proper narrative ect

The novels pre doom 3 did, but that’s besides the point the goal was to undo all the damage the fan base had done and try to make the series something scary again, so it wouldn’t die out as the boomer shooters and the fps genre as a whole faded before halo rescued it and saw not only avoid the fall but go on to become the biggest genre in gaming for years,

I think you have a warped idea on fps if you think Doom was in any danger before Doom 3 due to Halo. And I guarantee you that almost no one who played Doom cared about the novels besides making jokes about them. And what harm did the fanbase do in your eyes? Keep playing the games? Make fan made content with the beloved engine? Compete for times using Doom’s own recording and sharing system?

Halo didn’t kill boomer shooters they died the same quite death as their old rival the platformers, but the single player fps didn’t because halo introduced the new norm, gameplay loops that did far better at retaining players and keeping them coming back, id couldn’t live off doom 1 and 2 forever it needed new hits hence quake 2, and 3, and the ongoing quest to find a shooter with broader appeal, that boomer shooters lack,

…You do realize that people still play Doom 1, 2 and it’s spin-offs, right? And if they are already making new game and franchises, why bother with Doom 3 instead of new IPs for new people? And horror is the last genre you go to if you want wide-spread appeal since it’s a niche genre, and it being a “modern shooter” would kill appeal from Doom 1 and 2 fans who love the gameplay and feel of the “boomer shooters.” It doesn’t make sense with what you’re claiming.

Also, you never explained how Doom fans “ruined” the franchise in your eyes.

Resident Evil and Silent Hill were raking in cash, action horror was seen as a big new genre,

and they didn’t want to be stuck pumping out quake games so it seemed like the perfect time to revisit doom, to take it back to it’s horror roots and drive home how terrifying the forces of hell could be, to make them scary again rather than the joke the fandom had made them Into,
Also there is thing called market saturation, tons of people playing your game means jack shit if they bought it 4 years ago,

So they wanted to be stuck pumping out Doom games? Again, your logic is very flawed. And no, fans speedrunning games doesn’t make the enemies in them a joke. That’s just dumb logic to justify the delusion that Doom wasn’t taken seriously.

And if there’s still a demand for “boomer shooters” as you call them, than just make another one than a clunky hybrid that appeals to much few people than just committing to one or the other.
You can just say you like Doom 3 without creating a fan fic to claim that it failed because of “the haters” or “the world wasn’t ready for it.”

Doom fans didn’t ruin anything. They kept the legacy alive by constantly making new maps and mods of the classic Dooms.
Also Boomer shooters saw a resurgence recently with a lot of new indies like Dusk and Amid Evil. So they’re still very popular.

Doom 3 is…. fine. But it’s horror elements aren’t very good, and the gunplay is pretty weak. The only real noteworthy thing it did was add some revolutionary lighting. The story is also weird and not great. RE4 did the action horror stuff a lot better. Doom fans prefer the classic games and NuDoom because of the better gameplay and simplicity.

I was questioning Thanotos on that, since they are quite bad at explaining how the Doom fanbase “ruined” Doom. They couldn’t even explain how the fanbase made the demons “less scary” other than playing the games so much.

Honestly, Doom 3 likely wouldn’t be remembered if it wasn’t a Doom game.

Yeah.
The thing about Doom 3 is that it’s what John Carmack originally wanted for Doom 1 but the tech wasn’t there yet. So Doom 1 became remembered as a fast-paced FPS.

So an example of what the creator wanted and what everyone else wanted being very different, and the latter being the better version.
