Also, the whole thing about how previous games have some impact to its sequel so playing in order lets you have a consistent experience.
 
But if you don’t have Dragon Keep, you can always edit the save files. That’s what I did with DA:I so that my Hawke is a sarcastic mage woman instead of the default noble warrior man and that Morrigan’s kid was made with Alistair for shipping reasons.

Honestly, using Dragon Keep isn’t much of a hassle.

Oh, and a companion in DA:O to be one in it’s DLC, Awakening, two companions in Awakening to return as companions in 2 as well. Or, and if you’re playing on PC, get patch mods. DA is a buggy franchise.

You may want to look up the wiki, since DA is full of bugs that break quests and even the story.

47 Oblivion Gates closed. I may have a problem. At least they don’t respawn, so that won’t be an issue. According to my map, I have 25 possible gates left (including the ones I closed but forgot I did). Since UESP says that outside of the set portals, there are only 50 random ones that will spawn, I think I’m doing great.

It’s still fun, but you will want to keep an eye on the wiki and what it says to play it safe, plus plenty of save rotating. Oh, and search every inch of every random encounter in the city, since they tend to be one-time events and at least one has a quest event that you can be locked out of completing in a dark corner that you wouldn’t think to check.

I just thought it was worth noting because out of all different games to redirect to, they chose Sonic. I find it kind of humorous in a way.

Change that to 53/58 Doors closed. I stopped at 53 and checked every possible spawn location for later. I think I’ll upgrade block to max tomorrow, work on the magical skills that aren’t at 70 or 100, finish the Oblivion Doors, than do the long grind to increasing Athletics.
