The coronavirus is 20 times deadlier than the flu according to the CDC, so it would be worse. That said, the US would be able to develop treatments pretty quickly. We are good at that.

Not sure how bad it was, I was younger and you’d have to look it up. I don’t think every city would be locked down or even any city for that matter. We’re not China, we won’t be completely sealing off our entire cities.

Shutdowns would be of public transportation services. I doubt there would be any military style lockdown of cities or towns.

There’s almost 79,000 confirmed cases and almost 2,500 deaths. It has about 3% mortality rate. And that’s with countries with less sanitation standards (like China) bloating the death rate.

It’s a new virus that AFAIK has yet to have a vaccine and is spreading at a notable rate.
 
Just because it’s not at Shut! Down! EVERYTHING! levels yet doesn’t mean countries aren’t smart by taking precautions.
