It’s already here in Melbourne, though to his credit, the man who brought it here was unaware he had it until after he arrived as it incubates for several days. Problematically, however, it’s fully infectious during the incubation, so the total people with it could be anywhere between a thousand and 7.6 billion.

Also, I have respiratory issues, so my chances of survival if I contract this are smaller than my chances of walking on the moon, so if I completely disappear from the internet forever…

Also, apparently it started in a fish market. I guess China’s fish are radioactive from the pollution…

Fun fact (that I don’t remember the tags on the image I wanted to comment on before finding this thread—it some warning about not eating batponies): bats are known for particularly deadly zoonotic viruses. Why? It’s speculated that it’s due to bats having a very high metabolism, which means that a mere human fever isn’t enough to kill off the virus when it infects humans.

This will probably (hopefully) blow over before long but the most frustrating thing to me about all this is that the modern world unanimously decided to get all their stuff from the country where all of these pandemics seem to originate from.

The practices there tend to be questionable at best. Selling live animals in poor conditions for consumptions with no screening or antibiotic treatment is one such issue.

Well no because despite all of that there are a few factors to consider. A comparatively very small number of those 5 million were probably exposed for one. Secondly you literally can’t use China as a measuring stick for how fast something is going to spread because China’s population density and utter disregard for sanitation makes it an outlier. We’ll see if it’s actually able to spread in less densely packed places and if we’re already getting reports of deaths that probably means it needs way less time to kill than ebola at least (which could stay in your system for like a month before going symptomatic) which means it’ll have less chance to propagate. We also live in a time where we know what germs are. When people think of pandemics they’re thinking back to times when we had absolutely no idea what we were doing, or we’re thinking of times when we were just starting to get an idea of what we were doing. I would also think the fact that it’s man made should give us some insight into how it’s going to behave. But I’m not a doctor and I might just be typing all this out to set my own mind at ease.
Ya’ll folks will want to stay out of cities nonetheless (but hey that’s something I recommend anyways hahaha) and we’ll probably want to rethink our precious globalism after this no matter what happens but it’s still a little too early to call, at least in my opinion.
