The average NFL game has 11 minutes of live-ball action spread across 3 hours. Requiring a full 60 minutes of live-ball action would make the game 16 or 17 hours long. You’d have to do it like a two-day cricket match: one day for each half, lunch breaks after the first and third quarter. And God help you if you need overtime.
