Wisconsin is one of those “battleground states”, and it’s been interesting to watch how folks here are responding to the endless waves of giant pickups with Texas license plates ‘rolling coal’ and waving confederate flags from the truck beds, pro-Nazi fliers in the cereal isles of our Target stores, and what apparently is now millions of dollars of GOP money pushing paper into our mailboxes.
Some of it has been pretty darned funny.
Like pic related - observed while driving through rural Wisconsin today.

At the behest of Trump, House Republicans have killed their own government funding bill.
There’s only 2 weeks left to avert a shutdown, but Congress is only in session for 1 more week.

espically since tje house republicans killed the bill in the house and not at the senete meaning they can’t even blame the democrats for it.

Republicans have lost their sense of self-preservation. Trump says “jump” and they say “how high, sir” with tears in their eyes.

At this point it feels like the comparison is Trump saying “Jump” and Republicans saying “Which cliff?”

Gavin Newsom is trying to ban hemp in a state where Marijuana is legal
I almost didn’t believe you, but there it is (from the governor’s own site)
The new regulations require that industrial hemp food, beverage, and dietary products intended for human consumption have no detectable THC or other intoxicating cannabinoids per serving, create a minimum age to purchase hemp products to 21, and limit the number of servings of hemp products to five per package.
Wow, fuck that.

Gavin Newsom is like a caricature from a political cartoon made manifest. Satire died sometime around 2010.

Gavin likes to portray California as a buffer against GOP insanity whilst doing nothing to actually improve living standards there (I personally would love to move from Georgia to California if it wasn’t for the SoCal housing market being gouged beyond belief).
BlitztheDragon
He uses the specter of the GOP to keep winning elections just as much as the GOP uses him.

Personally I believe that Unions should be independent from the political process, tying a union to a political party is a disaster waiting to happen

The flip from Biden to Harris could have something to do with O’Brien’s flirtation with the right, but personally I think it’s because Biden is a far older politician and so has ties with the old Democratic Party when union support was far more dominant, Harris political career started in 2010, long after the heyday of Unions in the US

I think he’s in his second term now. And I believe California is a jurisdiction that doesn’t allow a person to serve more than two terms as governor.

That is correct. However, the next gubernatorial election will be on November 2026, so Newsom will the governor of the state until then.

I’d say that, in part, is down to the nature of the rhetoric both sides use - both sides have their fair share of unhinged fools and agree that the other candidate winning will spell the end of democracy and of all that’s good and true in the country. But they differ on how - for the Trump crowd, Kamala winning will be bad because she’s a stooge for the Deep State™ - killing her won’t solve anything, They™‘ll just put somebody else in her place. In contrast, for the left, Trump’s danger flows from Trump himself. That makes it much easier for a random nut to get into his head that killing Trump will make a difference.

And supposedly globalism, communism, etc etc.
Trump’s danger flows from Trump himself
Moreso from the GOP in general, which has been on a downward spiral since Reagan at the latest.
Nah the reason Trump gets the assassination attempts is actually a lot more simple. The guy, by design, attracts the crazies. Not just the crazies that vouch for him but also the crazies that really really really don’t.
The guy is massively polarizing, a polarization he banks on, but polarization works both ways.
In other words, he’s a victim of his own strategy, not the lefts.

I agree with your logic. What I disagree with is your assertion that it matters. Logically minded people usually are not the ones to assassinate political leaders to begin with. I think the biggest danger for Trump is disillusioned right wingers who see Trump as a liability.

There are not really unhinged people on the left. Those have been purged out by over a century of propaganda and prosecution. In the late 19th and early 20th century you did have left wing extremists but you don’t anymore.
