I’m glad I’m not the kind of leftist that watches elections with my breath held for “our guy” to win and still expects a Pink Wave in South America that will correct a century or more of unequal development over the continent by bringing “grass roots social democracy” to the region, because between Boric failing to deliver a constitution that’s no different from the old constitution except a hazy progressive promise of the future (as I understand it) and Castillo: not a lot of W’s down there lmao
Lula winning was fun to watch Bolsonarists seethe but I still expect him to flood another river valley and not compensate any of the indigenous and poor that lived there. In an ironic twist, by virtue of simply existing for as long as possible Maduro scratches the weakest of W’s by waiting for the point the US is so in need of oil that they lifted their oil sanctions on Venezuela.
Honestly, the only exciting thing worthy of any attention and energy is - and will always be - the pending strikes. All this month starting about now the UK will be afflicted by strikes off and on across the nation, at different times, across professions from rail road workers to doctors and nurses to bus drivers and to coffin makers. Not to mention the ever looming labor unrest in American rail.
