As the saying goes “Ask a socialist why they hate capitalism, and they’ll give you a myriad of reasons. Ask a capitalist why they hate socialism and they’ll describe capitalism.”
You’re not “paying for some poor person’s welfare” under M4A. Under the current for profit system, you’re paying extra to keep a poor person and yourself from healthcare.

Dems are claiming they’re “very close” to a deal on the reconciliation package. Which, if true, means that it and the infrastructure package could both be voted on soon.
Personally, I’m hoping within the next week or two. Because if both bills pass, the VA governor election should be smooth sailing for McAuliffe, as both bills are very popular in northern VA.

Presumably in the 1.7 trillion range. With the Pay-For methods all stripped out, the climate change features ripped out, child care gutted, free college only lasting like a year tops, ect.
Remember, the thing was originally envisioned at 6 trillion during the ‘Never gonna happen but we can dream phase’, then introduced pre-compromised down to 3 trillion.
Then the Dems - being professional losers - compromised with themselves down to what it is now.

Fox News and college Republicans at Washington and Lee university, here in VA, are criticizing the school after it ordered displays for Youngkin taken down. The move was to keep the university in line with non-profit rules that prohibit state funded school from contributing material resources to campaign events. Flies and the like are fine, but the students, a chapter of the Young Republicans, were using a booth set up, which is banned.
They complained of being “silenced”, which is so fucking stupid. Because guess what? The dem clubs on site are banned from doing stuff like that for McAuliffe too.
Republicans are entitled little shits. “Rules are for thee, not for me”.
I’m not particularly pleased with the paired down version myself, and would have liked the infrastructure bill to be more comprehensive. But right now, I’ll take any bit of good news and progress. Getting two big bills passed, that are popular with a decently big portion of the population, might help the dems stave off calamity in 2022 and help them hold onto control of VA and NJ.

I’ve hearing that if China’s economy collapses then so does the rest of the world.
You know what, let this current crooked system that runs the world burn so that something decent can rise from the ashes.

I mean, the global Great Recession happened because America’s economy tanked (and that happened because a small number of bankers fleeced a large number of not-too-well-off people).
In this world of interconnected economies, yeah one tanking risks them all tanking.

Plus it would still a bigger accomplishment than the previous guy’s two biggest achievements, which as I recall were giving billionaires more money and increasing showerhead water flow.

Here’s how we should address all the police officers quitting or being fired because of covid.
Those officers are likely the biggest bad apples of the bunch, as that’s a pretty big display of “I don’t care about other people’s safety and health” coming from someone who’s job it is to care about other people’s safety. So, them being purged from the ranks is a net positive.
We should take advantage of this sudden outflux of worthless trash.
Step 1. Use the opportunity to implement newer and better training for the inevitable new recruits that come to replace the old. Increase the education standards and reform the psychological evaluation to include trait aggression measures. Existing officers would be required to retake the new training materials to stay employed but would be grandfathered out of the educational requirements.
Step 2. Greatly increase the pay and benefits for new and existing officers (the smart ones that got their shots) to compensate for the increase of standards and to attract good talent rather than the refuse of the dungheap they tend to get now.
Step 3. Hire on talent managers and organizational consultants to ensure a strong pipeline of talent progression, timely and fair promotions, and the weeding out of poor performers.
Step 4. Bring psychologists, counselors, social service professionals, and peer teams (former drug users, former criminals, anyone who has “changed for the better) onto the payroll to serve out their various functions for at risk portions of the population.
Step 5. Incentivize officers to both perform at a higher standards (bonuses for going above and beyond) and for reporting those who violate ethics and codes of conduct.
Step 6. Devote some of the funding to an ad campaign championing the increased standards and pay/benefits to both reform the image of the police force but also continue to attract talent.
Step 7. Stress test for a year, using outside consulting and auditing firms to identify areas that need improvement. Tinker with pay and benefits packages, training programs, and talent placement.
Step 8. Tar and feather Mitch McConnell.
There’s my greatly simplified list of how to take advantage of the coming purge.

Re: educational standards, my dad told me that joining the force ought to require the ability to earn an Associate’s law degree; simply, cops work best as “lawyers with guns,” in his opinion.

Considering…
A) The training period for an American cop is about 6 months. It takes about 4 years to earn an Associate’s Degree. And in Europe the average training period for a cop is like 6 years (varies from nation to nation).
B) In any European nation it takes them literally years, plural, for their “Death by Cop” numbers to hit America’s weekly “Death by Cop”* numbers.
…yeah, anything that increases the time between “I want to be a cop!” to “Here’s a gun, badge, pat on the shoulder and unlimited authority to shoot blacks” would be a good thing and save many lives.
*Remember, it was recently revealed that the “Death by Cop” numbers in America are under-reported. The real number is estimated to be about twice as much as the official number.

“Hyperinflation is coming next year across the world” says crypto advocate and billionaire Jack Dorsey who is also converting Square into a crypto-mining platform.
Hmm, I wonder if he has a biased reason to start “predicting” hyper inflation in traditional currency markets.

Okay, I’m going to try to clear this up, once and for all:
Are you actually a completely full-blown socialist and/or anti-capitalist at this point, or are you something else (i.e. a social democrat)? Because you’ve been consistently dropping posts in this thread that would lead the average layperson to assume that you are one, in the sense that you’re an absolute socialist.
Republicans are entitled little shits. “Rules are for thee, not for me”.
I sincerely hope you recognize (or have already recognized) that this phenomenon of any political group being “entitled little shits” cuts both ways, in that not only can any amount of Republicans and/or conservatives have such attitudes/outlooks on life, but that practically any amount of such people from all over the entierty of the political spectrum—both left and right—can hold those attitudes and put them on full display, as well.

I’m well aware, but one does not have to show both sides of an argument when specifically addressing a particular event.
In this respect, it was the Republicans being little shits, and I am under no obligation to point to instances where the dems are being as such. I’m not comparing and contrasting, just calling a spade a spade.

Whoa bro, slow down, I might have to report you!
I can’t imagine calling someone out for something as bad as… reads notes
“pointing out that the current system is deeply flawed and ‘socialism’ as a concept in any form has been unfairly demonised to protect the financial interests of those in power to such a degree that those most negatively affected by the status quo act against their own best interest out of pure dogma”
Truly awful stuff.

I don’t know what I am, due in no small part to general ignorance about the finer differences between the many different economic models (if you can explain the difference between social democrat and democratic socialist, then you know more than I do).
But I do know I’ve become fed up with capitalism setting the oceans on fire (No, really) or creating stories about how people working full time and/or multiple jobs and still not passing the poverty line.

I read a quote earlier that really sums up one of my biggest problems with modern capitalism, as a capitalist.
“Why is taking naked pictures of yourself considered selling your body, but breaking your back in the mine is honest labor?”.
Our current form of capitalism strips you of your personal autonomy. Not only are we not fairly compensated for our labors, we are at the whims of corporations and lobbyists for how our labors can even be applied.
