This all screams police brutality. And I’m not saying that to get into people’s “good graces” or “avoid cancellation.” I MEAN IT.

same. & if i may add on that, while i don’t support blindly accepting something from one side, it’s also important to consider whatever new piece of evidence comes out on an issue such as this & not just dismiss & sweep it under the rug just because it doesn’t fit your narrative. what also doesn’t help is using buzzwords & attempts at slander when a disagreement occurs. new info is always coming out, not all will be right but is important to think through. this goes everyone, not just one particular side. _{there’s probably more to this but that’s all i have at the moment}

Probably because they already spent the entirety of the Trump administration investigating the Trump administration. Dozens of arrests later we found out who we could arrest and who was too above the law to arrest.

It wouldn’t accomplish much and would distract from his goals. We had 4 years of people examining the man. Nothing substantial has come of it. Trying to drag it all back would burn political capital, be a distraction, and split the country even more. Then, at the end of the day, nothing substantial will come of it.

Rage and discontent. That is why the country was destabilized. I think it and COVID made the perfect storm. Frankly though, I can understand why a lot of folks are angry. Black poverty and broken unstable families is a very real issue and a lot of it manifests in the relationship between the police and their community.
 
Image if you. Struggle to make enough to live everyday. Home life not the best. No structure or much of a livelihood. This police brutality incidents are a flashpoint in all of that. All the anger and pain is very deep.
 
I concur that still doesn’t make the a lot of the idolization right and left wing activist inflame tensions and break up a lot of attempts to unite on this but the pain is real.

Sure. That I fully agree with. But their hatred of police does not help anything. The outside can help some but change has to come from within and will take a long time. BLM and its rampaging have set this back decades.

I consider it an incredibly mixed situation that varies from city to city and state to state. Some cases I think the police departments have destoryed all good will with the community and they are at fault for all the hate. Others I think bad tactics are used at times and their is some problems but the grand narrative of it being “open season” on black bodies or whatever is completely wrong (especially in the cases where you have a majority black police department, with black leadership! I can call police idiotic but that ain’t racism).
 
My ideal would be some system for the worst police departments to have someone else take over and hopefully ease tension. Defunding them sure didn’t go well in Minneapolis but you had some still stoking it even if officer force was justified.
 
A lot of cultural and community changes would be needed as well but that would be too long to get into atm

You have very good takes on this. Also, I find that there are sides to black american culture that are extremely counter productive. It’s cool to be a criminal and not go to school and instead sell recreational pharmaceuticals etc. Music and other black media often reflect this. And this is somehow supposed to produce upstanding citizens?

It’s a wildly unpopular opinion here, but I don’t think the officer was innocent, but definitely not guilty of murder. Manslaughter? Sure. He contributed to his death. Did he outright murder the man? If you were to ask me, no he did not, and the fact that so many individuals believe so is troubling to me.
 
To generalize my thoughts since someone queried, to me it’s very puzzling how the death of this man has caused this reaction, to the point I think it’s almost stupid. Particularly since I think there are worse cases (or rather one particular case) of police brutality that has much more business warranting this kind of reaction. Personally, I don’t think we can “lump them all together” and rally under Floyd’s case because to me it’s almost insulting to the others. Even if the officer gets the death penalty and is executed in an public execution, it doesn’t solve anything. It doesn’t heal anyone. It doesn’t bring George Floyd back, it doesn’t solve the infrastructural problem of American law enforcement conduct and organization. There are already been-in Minneapolis no less- other cases of alleged and even probable police misconduct. Even in a generalized sense, (“why punish anyone at all then?”), perhaps it’s my unemotional unemphatic part of myself speaking, but there is almost no reason to warrant all these reactions.
 
The fact that this is celebrated is worrisome to me.

I clearly don´t understand enough about USA law but in Germany “Körperverletzung mit Todesfolge” does not become “Totschlag”.

The narrative they are going with now is that Chauvins sentence is not justice but “accountability”. The work to address systemic racism (aka the socialist revolution attempt) will continue. Never did see that coming. 🤪
