Perhaps it is due to:

  • horrible politicians (like Trump, Pence, homophobic and racist blokes, those two bastards in Texas, and the politicians who do little to improve the impoverished parts of California) who make people more suspicious about “the other side”
  • activism – whether by leftists to push for equality and social justice by being as rude and shocking against the White majority, or by rightists who also want to be shocking and violent to fight back against “political correctness” and “big government”.

    These nasty attitudes might had soured during the Obama and Trump administrations. While Obama ruled, right-wingers accused him of communism and denounced him for not being White.

    Trump seemed to worsen the left-right division. In the left, more people cut away right-wingers as they accused Trump supporters of supporting his administration’s policies and his supporters’ hatred against marginalised people. In the right, Trump’s anti-establishment and politically-incorrect rhetoric, along with growing support for social justice and LGBTQ movements in the mass media, encouraged people to support right-wing militants and White supremacist groups to fight back against what they considered as “attacks against the family/the church”.

On the first point I think the extreme politicians we’ve seen recently is only a symptom of the problem. I think the parties sorted themselves out a long time ago and since then the chasm between them has grown. Over time Democrats moved farther left on policies while republicans have for the most part stayed the same, or moved left but at a much slower rate.

On the second point I agree. Not all activists do this, but the extreme ones whose goal is to “win” and don’t want any kind of compromise end up being the ones that push the other side away. People don’t want to associate with the opposing side because the crazies become associated with them. Next thing you know people who just don’t know any better begin thinking all democrats support far left theories on race and are socialists, all Republicans support burning the government down and putting minorities in camps.

That’s a really superficial observation. Yes, the Republicans panders to open racism, true. However both sides are financially beholden to entities that benefit from a globalised system of oppression that has a lot of its roots in racism.

In Canada it would be political suicide to get rid of Universal Healthcare. Their Conservative parties have reduced funding in the past but never proposed abolishing it.Meanwhile, in America, Joe Biden said he wouldn’t approve Medicare for All even if all the hard work was done and it was on his desk. Democrats are further right than Canadian conservatives in this aspect.

@Violet Rose in The Rain
I didn’t say Republicans pander to open racism. Some extremes might do so, I can’t speak for every person in a group, but I didn’t make a blanket claim on the whole group.

It’s all a lot more complicated then can be explained in a forum post, that’s why entire fields are dedicated to public choice. Politicians are beholden to votes at the end of the day, and will work to stay elected. Money matters in getting those votes, but it is a careful balance between what people truly care about and how people are motivated. People like to pull polls to see how the greater voter base feels on a subject, but those are lacking. Yeah Steve in Minnesota might support a topic when asked, but otherwise doesn’t care that much, while Linda feels the opposite and his rabid about her opposition. Technically both have one vote, but Steve cares about other topics more, while for Linda it is a make it or break it topic. All of this leads to a stupidly complicated web of lobbyists, money, town halls, etc.

To give you an idea on the economic side of policies and how complicated they can be, check out the price of milk, it’s pretty funny. This is just an example out something mundane like the price of milk, where 95% of the country isn’t concerned, matters heavily to some people, the milk producers.

I’m not convinced this is an issue resulting from a globalized system of oppression, or racism. I’ve never seen a convincing case for this.

What do you have to say about fans’ habit of harassing people they don’t like, and how they are associated with different ideologies? I’ve noticed on the Internet that both sides accuse each other of that “dogpiling” habit. This behaviour is what some chuds complain as “cancel culture”: not just the boycotting that characterises the term, but also Internet users leaving hate mail and death threats to “cancel” their enemy out of existence.

On one hand, people complain about “esjaydublews” (leftists) who will harass people for making something that looks vaguely offensive, like the zamii incident in Steven Universe, and Japanese artists being harassed for drawing Nessa in the wrong way. On the other, we have Gamergate, who will harass anyone who puts anything vaguely progressive, like The Last of Us, New Ghostbusters, and anti-racism announcements in Cartoon Network .

Is there a way to stop them from practicing this disgusting custom? It looks very characteristic of modern American society, and this is why I sometimes hate fandoms.

1, 2, 3, 4

Yet they claim cancel culture either 1. Doesn’t exist or 2. Is “accountability”. Even though they’re just a parasitic hivemind that loves to ruin the lives of anyone they don’t like.

It’s one of the reasons I remain neutral. Both sides have a tendency of doing the exact same s### that they criticize the other side for doing, without realizing the hypocrisy behind it.

You have some people attacking an artist for doing art on a comic done by Ethan van Sciver (despite the fact that it was a job and nothing more), while some attacked Laura Bailey for voicing Abby in TLoU2 (despite the fact that she had nothing to do with the awful writing).

Josh Hawley is set to shamelessly grill the former Sergeant at Arms and Police Chief for why the Jan 6 insurrection was allowed to happen.

I will praise all the powers that be if the former Chief simply responds to his questioning “Because you encouraged them.”

While the two are similar I think cancel culture has a bigger issue with this idea that by shaming people and trying to destroy them it makes you seem better. Ironically often times the people leading the charge end up having something in their past that gets them canceled as well. Kids and teens are stupid, they say and do stupid things, so the worst examples of this is people dragging out things that were said by teens in order to ruin them later. Now yeah often times these things are offensive, but it’s crazy to go after an adult for those things said as a child.

For fandoms I think if you consider yourself a part of a fandom you’re already passionate about the subject. So when something comes out that isn’t up to the quality that is expected you’re going to see some crazies out there pushing things too far. Most things, including the examples you gave, can be fairly criticized, but those get drowned out by people going crazy over it and throwing out insults and death threats, even to people not responsible for what they’re mad about. For example, I think the new Ghostbusters was a bad movie that wasn’t very funny, and I think they leaned on the female thing as a crutch to deflect criticism. If I come out and say that in a thread where you also have someone calling the woman sluts and claiming woman can’t be funny most people will not notice my comment.

I feel bad for the pillow-stuffers in Minnesota who might lose their jobs because of his idiocy. But after the lawsuits in 2016-17 and losing their BBB accreditation, they had to know their boss was a little bit dodgy.

Actually the chief bares allot of blame here, for not taking it seriously, the crowd should have been met with full riot control measures, but the chief at best was worried about the optics or didn’t assume a mob of white people would be violent, despite of warnings about it from everywhere,

I am, as a rule, extremely protective of children, and mothers.

I read a small piece on a woman who had her child die in the womb. She went to Planned Parenthood to have a D&E abortion.

She was distraught, naturally, and went to speak to her pastor for comfort. Instead, he verbally accosted her, blamed her for the childs death, and is likely the one who spread the news around to the other members.

I enjoy schadenfreude as much as the next guy. And hearing the guy who not only still supports Trump even after Jan. 6, but also tried to convince him to enact martial law to overthrow the election is paying for his actions is nice and all.

But I’m just tired from it. It’s the same story time and again: anyone and everyone associated with Trump gets screwed, while Trump himself gets off scot free to screw over even more associates. I just want the common denominator in all these stories to also finally face the consequences of his criminality.

@Thanotos Omega

Nah man, I hear ya. We saw all through the summer that actual preparation and action were very much things the capitol police were capable of when the protesters were protesting a black man’s right to not be shot by police. So it is very conspicuous when they reveal after years of Law and Order that the police are, in fact, able to take a soft-handed approach but only when it’s a fascist overthrow of democracy by white supremacists.

But in this case it’s one person responsible for why the insurrection happened trying to cover his own butt by passing the buck to another guy also responsible.

I had the misfortune to have read this news from Sankaku Complex, which is I assume a very, VERY weeb site.

Said news generated 103 comments, in comparison the next few news generated way less.

The bulk of the comments boil to: Fcuk sand niggers. Leave anime girls alone. Hijabi are oppressed. Where are the sjws now? Islam gets free pass etc.

READ THE COMMENTS AND SUFFER WITH ME.

Fuxcking Weebs, man. I forgot why I never bothered with the larger weeb community. This comment chain reminds me why.
